It's true that Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag may follow this trend, but the flair that Ubisoft added makes it stand among its competition, allowing the game to evolve every year.

The Good: Open World Freedom One of my favorite aspects from ACIII was the sailing aspects and thankfully, Ubisoft tapped into that for Black Flag, making it a core component.

Perhaps the most important gameplay mechanic is the ship; this is very much like Black Flags mechanics which makes sense as it was simple, easy and a lot of fun.

And a number of multi-platform games have made their way onto the U too, including Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Call of Duty: Ghosts, and the upcoming Watch Dogs.

That's good, but it's an Assassin's Creed game that doesn't include many of the steps forward that Black Flag so recently made.

Rogue treads familiar ground by returning to Black Flag's deft mixture of stabby shenanigans and sailing pursuits and in doing so, provides an interesting counterpoint to the recent Assassin's Creed: Unity which, in the eyes of many, took a step back from the strides the series made in Black Flag.
