A one - joke movie if ever there was, but the joke happens to be a good one — a Tracy - and - Hepburn - style battle of the sexes in which Kate can fly and blast through walls — and director Ivan Reitman (who
made Ghostbusters) feels at home with the mix of screwball and supernatural.
That said, if Feig intends to up the scariness factor, and
make his Ghostbusters run the gauntlet, his casting choices seem odd.

While annoyingly controversial at the time, Paul Feig's 2016
Ghostbusters movie didn't
make a huge impact due to the fact that it wasn't significantly better or worse than the original.
It's the first of four films he would
make with director Ivan Reitman (Stripes,
Ghostbusters and
Ghostbusters II are the others), who also shows he has a deftness of character - driven comedy, letting his actors come to the forefront of the story to create some memorable highlights.
That ultimately proves to be its undoing, because while «
Ghostbusters» is an occasionally entertaining and mostly harmless reboot, it lacks the nuance and comic energy that
made its predecessor an instant classic.
I love the aesthetics and the characters were fun, but it took me awhile to realize that I was Trumping on everyone instead of just talking to them or trying to shake their hands, and the fact that the actual battle sequences were based entirely on guessing where the invisible monsters were going to go and took place on the same piece of graph paper that you did your planning on
