A Los Angeles company has successfully tested an electromagnetic actuator it claims will eventually make conventional auto suspensions obsolete.Aura Systems Inc. of El Segundo, Calif., has patented its actuator in the United States, Japan and several European countries.The device works with the repelling force of magnetism and would replace traditional gas or hydraulic shock absorbers.

That mixture is made possible in large part by GM's third - generation magnetic shocks and traction control system that offer four drive modes: tour, sport, track and snow.

Making sure this large all - wheel - drive sedan rides smoothly is the Magnetic Ride Control system that adjusts shock absorber damping to suit road conditions.
