making for «no straw» in your drink when you go
out, bringing your own
bags to the grocery store, getting coffee or a smoothie in your own cup / jar, bringing your own silverware when you're
out and about, switching from
paper to cloth napkins, buying bread from a local bakery or
making it yourself instead
of buying in plastic, switching to a menstrual cup or washable cloth pads instead
of disposable, there's so many different ways to produce less waste.

Start by
making simple changes like carrying your own reusable

out of reusable containers and buying products that are packaged in glass, cardboard,

Some items in the
bag might include cosmetics, newspapers, magazine articles, airline or movie ticket stubs, photographs
of people or places, a music CD, grooming materials, keys, a candy wrapper, a crayon, a slip
of paper with a first name and phone number written on it, a recipe, an empty soda can, a parking ticket, a check
made out to them, a rubber band, a keychain with no keys on it, a receipt from a grocery store or a fast - food restaurant (If you are stuck for a long list
of items, you might even brainstorm in advance with students a list
of nouns / things that might be found in students» pockets / purses or in a «junk drawer» at home.
(I can also acknowledge that the current era isn't necessarily the good ole» days either, what with policymakers constantly getting in teachers» business, a bureaucratic system that excels at
making inane and annoying decisions, and plenty
of administrators who can't manage their way
out of a
paper bag.)

I used a large pastry
bag and a star tip (Wilton 1M) to
make these into rosette shapes, but if you don't have either
of those things, you can simply spoon them
out onto the parchment
paper.
