I drug myself to work yesterday and it suddenly became very apparent to me just how much I do in the morning: get up,
shower, dressed, put on makeup,
make breakfast,
make my decaf pumpkin spice latte, eat breakfast, pack lunches, get kids teeth brushed (hubby got them up, dressed and fed), get kids shoes and coats on, get everyone in the car, drive 45 minutes in traffic, get kids and their stuff out of the car, walk to each kids» classroom, take out lunches and put in the fridges, get kids to put their stuff in their cubbies and wash their hands, go back to the car, drive to my office, get out, walk across the lot, down stairs and through two heavy
doors to my office, and finally sit down.
Two of those for me are cutting myself off from work stuff at 2:30,
making sure I'm
showered and dressed before the kids get home from school rather than staying in sweaty workout clothes and
showering after the older kids get home, and not unpacking lunch boxes immediately after the kids walk in the
door.
I
shower, get ready, wake 2 - year - old at 6:15 a.m., change diaper,
make breakfast, pack their lunch, while simultaneously eating breakfast myself, brush their teeth, and get them out the
door by 6:50 ish.

Frameless
shower doors are
made from thicker glass than other
shower doors — three - eights to one - half inch thickness as opposed to one - quarter inch thickness — so they tend to cost at least twice the amount of a framed
shower door.
Since our lower level of the house is a walk - out basement, my origional idea was to install a sliding
door to
make the space an indoor / outdoor
shower (wouldn't that be amazing!?!).
We tore down the
shower door,
making the space feel larger (and cleaner!).
In my dreams it would have an outdoor
shower right outside the back
door to
make it easier to clean up after the beach - but that is a whole other post!
Even if you occasionally have to skip
making the bed or have to run out the
door without a
shower, try to stick with your routine every single day as much as possible.
Apparently, if he wasn't on this «charm offensive», he would have been quite tetchy about all the caustic remarks I've been

The only change we
made to the layout was moving the entry
door (from the Master Bedroom) over 6» to accommodate a larger
shower, and changing it to a narrower pocket
door.
Moving the
door, moving the toilet, and even extending the
shower 4 ″ wider to
make a perfect 72 ″ fit for the vanity with no dead space.
Well, after the
shower at 5:45 and getting the kids out the
door, my first thing is to open all the blinds and drapes, then
make the beds, pick up anything laying around, clean the kitchen, then on to do whatever projects are pending for the day.
However, my fantasy renovation would include
making it more aging - in - place appropriate: larger and with a curbless
shower, new
shower doors, and a new toilet.
The only change we
made when we first moved in was to take down those hideous
shower doors and use a
shower curtain instead.
I am going to
make our master bedroom paint and a
door to the
shower area our goal for 2013.
