One of the most powerful
pieces of advice I've ever received was
from a woman I interviewed for a
magazine article a few years ago.
My best score would probably be all of my vintage rattan
pieces (a swivel chair, foot stool,
magazine rack and sofa side table) that I got
from Craigslist.
Pieces from her collection have been featured in national
magazines, popular blogs, and even on the hit TV show «Mad Men.»
The idea came
from the pages of a May 2016 issue of InStyle
magazine and the concept was «mad maximalism», which I took as wearing simple
pieces but in a really over-the-top way like pattern mixing.
I found these two interesting
pieces (Clothes on Film over at Interview
magazine) that discuss both Dorthy's dress
from Jerry Maguire and Penny Lane's coat
from Almost Famous with costumer designer Betsy Heimann.
I myself worked on a
piece for Premiere
magazine focusing on the event
from the perspective of David Breashears, who made the IMAX film «Everest» (1998) and who appears as a minor character here.
Quite often, Hollywood «period
pieces» feel dated and somewhat irrelevant to our world today — as if they were a snapshot
from an old
magazine.
On another level, the film is an overly glossy, ostensibly intellectual but deliberately trite mass - market romance (
from the screenplay written by Pierce) about a reporter and a movie star falling in love while she shadows him on the set of yet another movie (in which he plays a cop along side Brad Pitt) for a
magazine fluff
piece profile she's writing.
