First you really need to just decide what
type of character you want each of them to be - high damage output, high defense,
magic user, etc..
There are also points in the game where you're expected to go up against jelly -
type enemies even though the story doesn't supply you with a black
magic user.
Through this you can plan the characters you use, balancing out your team with a character of each
type as well as a
magic user or archer who hold their own advantages on the battlefield.
It would have been nice to see Dark Souls III embrace spell
types from other RPGs that would transform its
magic -
users into more mobile, dynamic threats with the ability to teleport or summon physical obstacles, but this aspect of combat has one foot stranded firmly in the past.
