Personally, I love the search function for
my main documents folder and the Start Menu, but that's about it.

You can drag and drop any e-book format into the
main root or
documents folder and this will make them available in your Kobo library.
Other
folders in the
main menu are set up to receive
documents, free e-books (books with no DRM encryption; my evaluation unit came with nine from Project Gutenberg), and music (the media player only supports unencrypted MP3 files).
For Mac users, I don't know what
folder you'll have, but the one where your
main documents usually save.
The
main problem with this method is that you have drill into the hierarchical
folder structure to put the
document in the correct place, or just have a
folder into which you drop these types of files.
In fact, OneDrive serves as the
main folder and file location for all your Office Online
documents, just as Google Drive now does for Google Docs.
