Despite stating that the
main entries for the Pokemon series will remain as
handheld titles, Nintendo has explored the world of Pokemon on console before.
Kingdom Hearts is one of my favourite series, comprising so far of two
main titles, and three
handheld — Birth By Sleep being the latest of the latter.
Even with
titles such as Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy +, amiibo functionality, Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, as well as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate being the
main draws to the
handheld, this isn't a huge and transformative jump that Nintendo needed in order to bring in new fans.
With
handheld consoles becoming more able to replicate the 3D visuals and gameplay associated with home consoles, we are seeing more and more series incorporate
handheld titles into their
main series canon, rather than providing spin - off distractions that could often be ignored without missing any big developments in the series.
While earlier this month, Nintendo commented that they will give a focus to
titles and accessories over the
main console and consider Nintendo has a rare track record (said the Nintendo
handheld line) with making hardware revisions to their systems as opposed to Sony and Microsoft who have adopted it as a commonplace practice for most of their home consoles, could this be a first for Nintendo if we are to believe that the console is to escape the grasps of pirates who will eventually open the system for piracy?
[15] On December 12, 2006, during a press conference celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Dragon Quest franchise, Square Enix announced that Dragon Quest IX would be released exclusively for the Nintendo DS
handheld video game console, making it the first
main Dragon Quest
title to debut on a
handheld.
If you put these
titles in these players hands again and instructed the fools to comment on aspects relating to specifically a
handheld, their
main gripes hold no ground.
Personally, I doubt Nintendo's
handhelds will die until Nintendo is good and ready to let them go, because the flagship
titles of their
main series will remain exclusive to their own hardware.
There is no doubt that the recently released Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is easily one of the best PSP
titles to date, and is one of the
main reasons to pickup one of the
handhelds.
