beyondblue is a major funder of mental health research in Australia with a focus on depression, anxiety and suicide.

Research shows that family support plays a major role in the success of people recovering from addiction and mental health issues.

The mental health professionals currently working with older children and families have typically never received training on brain processes in child development, and are still using outmoded and archaic models of behaviorism from the 1940s - 50s or humanistic «play therapy» models from the 1950s - 60s, models that were created well before the major advances in the scientific research on brain and child development that have occurred since the mid-1980s.

The organization supports major efforts to address children's mental health, maltreatment and the impact of trauma, as well as building systems that support young children and their families affected by trauma through policy, research, community development, resource / publication dissemination, as well as training and technical assistance.
