The University of Queensland's Triple P — Positive Parenting Program significantly reduces the number of serious cases of emotional and behavioural problems in children when used as a public health strategy, interim findings of a major independent evaluation have found.

As with other major public health problems, the burden of suffering associated with aggression, bullying and violence will not be significantly reduced by clinical services alone; effective prevention programs are also urgently needed (Craig and Pepler 2003; Offord et al. 1998; Waddell et al. 2005, 2007).

The award is intended to recognize an early career psychologist who has established a program of empirical research that has had a major impact on the field «s understanding of psychopathology, prevention, assessment, treatment, or public policy relative to child and adolescent development or mental health.
