fall into the hands
of not archaeologists
of pleasure, but hard - bodied co-eds who aren't interested in discovering new, unknown experiences so much as shitting around in the usual slasher -
film fashion and accidentally freeing some wise - cracking, cosmic hook - wielding genie.
Here, the emperor (Takataro Kataoka) remains an enigmatic offscreen figure for the
majority of the
film, which instead focuses on Gen.
Fellers» dishearteningly banal, Nancy Drew - like investigation into whether Hirohito was guilty
of war crimes.
The
film ably balances suspense and thoughtful storytelling for the
majority of its running time, and concludes both stories admirably, only to
fall apart in the last few minutes by suddenly placing all
of its emphasis on incident instead
of character.
Admittedly, the
film's ending does
fall apart a bit, but the vast
majority of the
film is engaging and original, so I am willing to look past the ending to see the excellent filmmaking here.
The last trailer released for the
film was the one shown at San Diego Comic - Con back in July, which the
majority of fans immediately
fell in love with.
