students — primarily African American and Latino, but also poor
students of all backgrounds — the teachers who believe
in and push them, who refuse to accept anything less than the best
from them, often

difference between a
life of hope and one
of despair.
With this rapid expansion
of the Linked Learning field, it is worth revisiting what it is that distinguishes this approach
from the many other types
of career pathways offered
in high schools — and why we think it can
make a real
difference in the
lives of students.
While teachers
of any background can
make a
difference in the
lives of students, we believe (and research supports) that
students benefit
from teachers
of similar backgrounds.
