I think people believe that because I preach eating a
diet made from
real, clean
food that I don't eat any pre-
made stuff.
My friend Kelly created her amazing cookbook, Paleo Eats to help share delicious recipes with those that are trying to
make the transition to a grain free,
real food diet.
We choose to incorporate all
real foods into our
diet even though many of the dishes that we
make fall into the above categories.

real food have a place in most people
diets as long as you have no allergy to them and potatoes have some many ways you can
make delicious healthy recipes with them.
It is one of the first tips I give to anyone starting the switch to a healthier lifestyle and the one factor that
makes it so easy to eat a
real food diet.
Since kraut is one of the most budget - friendly
real foods out there (along with sardines), I've found that it is worth investing in some inexpensive equipment to
make it a regular part of my
diet.
My strategy when it comes to keeping the nasty bacteria at bay is to
make sure my kids» immune systems are strong by feeding them a
real food diet with plenty of fermented veggies and drinks (good bacteria) and restricting sugar.
Whilst you will obviously need to lift weights and exercise in order to build lean muscle, if your
diets aren't right and if you're eating the wrong
foods at the wrong times, you simply won't
make any
real progress at all.
For you this could mean getting regular exercise, finally
making the jump to a
real food diet, getting your Vitamin D levels checked, or another part of optimal health.
Even though I was already eating a healthy,
real food diet, removing other potential inflammatory
foods helped me identify
foods that were problematic for me personally and
made a big difference in my health.
Those (like me) who don't consume dairy should be conscious of the need for
real food sources of calcium and
make an effort to include
foods like broth, fish with bones, green leafy vegetables and other healthy sources of fats, protein and vegetables as part of a varied
diet.
As I researched my way into a
real food diet, a lot of things started
making a lot more sense, but the idea that dental health was sheerly genetic and the presence of sugar on the outside of the teeth causing cavities didn't
make sense at all.
However, if your goal is to be healthy, lower your body fat, hold onto your muscle, and improve your mental well - being, then
make sure your
diet is 90 %
real food — not fake man -
made «products».
Our
Real Whole
Food diet's
made us all healthier.
On most days my
diet is quite simple -
real food made with eggs, avocados, meats and vegetables.
In general, you should cut down on sugar and processed carbs and include healthy fats in your
diet (omega 3 fatty acids, monounsaturated and saturated fat), avoid processed
foods high in additives - eat
REAL food,
make sure you get enough sleep and include some moderate exercise.
You want to
make sure your cells are only getting the good stuff by filling your
diet with
real foods and plenty quality probiotics.
A
diet full of processed
foods, crappy carbs, hydrogenated fats, old polyunsaturated fats left in a deep fryer for days, and a pile of chemicals that create smells, flavors, textures, and colors — just like
real food — will
make anyone fat as a tick.
We choose to incorporate all
real foods into our
diet even though many of the dishes that we
make fall into the above categories.
I know that many people will argue that these nutrients can all be
made up for through supplementation, but given that many of the above are not found in prenatal vitamins, that supplements usually don't contain the same ratios of these nutrients as are found in
food (or the same forms of nutrients found in
food), and that research is still uncovering valuable nutrients in
real foods, I'm not comfortable to say that supplementing a vegetarian
diet in pregnancy will 100 % cover your nutrient needs.
Let us look back to the time when our
diet wasn't
made up of 70 % processed
foods, and remember what we have forgotten in the last hundred years or so about
real food and its connection to our health.
In Tuesday's post I talked about the biggest mistake I see a lot of people
make with their
diet, which is basically that they're not eating «
real food», but instead consume mostly evolutionarily novel
foods and spend their money on supplements, shakes, «Paleo» bars, protein powders, cleanses, energy bars, and other
food items that are typically marketed as quick and simple solutions that will
make you healthier, slimmer, and / or more energetic.
By 2013 and approaching 30, I
made the switch to a
real food based
diet and eating to heal my body.
There won't be counting calories or low - fat
diet dogma here, but there will be
real food health posts and nourishing recipes
made with quality, whole
food ingredients: lots of gorgeous veggies, good fats, fermented, probiotic - rich
foods, bone broths and grass - fed / pasture - raised meats and definitely gluten - free sweet treats from time to time.

When considering a «plant - based
diet» in comparison to a balanced
diet inclusive of healthy proteins, Nina Planck, in her astounding book «

All this «new» talk of a modest benefit of vitamin E in Alzheimer's patients, reminded me of Dr. Neal's Barnard's advice that for our «Brain's Sake» we should all
make certain we get an adequate amount of vitamin E through our
diets — from
real food.
I don't idealize the ancient
diet, because we can't really fully know it, but realistically I'd have to guess that besides plants (and bugs), like someone else mentioned, it probably included whatever else was easy to procure, (considering it wouldn't
make sense to expend more calories hunting down
food than you would receive from consuming it) like mussels, clams, crabs, snails, some fish, maybe small animals, but I bet the taste for meat came from observing
REAL carnivores consuming flesh, and maybe leaving carcasses behind.
Bottom line... I can't
make sense of this
diet as
real food.
Because the vast majority of women do not follow a
Real Food, Traditional
diet and because I so clearly observed the difference in my own breastmilk when I
made the change myself, I would have chosen to
make a homemade baby formula with raw milk from grassfed cows instead of seeking donor breastmilk.
Bottom Line: Going on a low - carbohydrate
diet can
make it easier to enjoy whole,
real foods and get away from processed
foods.
