It's a unique twist on the action - RPG formula that we've seen in hundreds of other games, one that really
makes Automata strand out from the crowd.
This same sensibility has also come to inform my approach to
making automata, sculptural instruments and a variety of multimedia creations.
Not exact matches
That
makes them very similar to the basic components of recent ideas about
Automata Theory and Programming.

The reason you «beat»
Automata multiple times was because the game needed to you become familiar with the plot beats so it could tear apart your assumptions, and
make you question every action leading up to that moment.
It was transfixing to watch
Automata's plot slowly unfold, layer by layer, as it reveled in knowing every assumption I was
making about the game — and the very nature of the story it was telling — was wrong.

You won't fully understand the importance of their relationship until you've played through the game at least three times, but 2B and 9S
make up the poignant core of NieR:
Automata's bonkers story.
NieR:
Automata successfully blends rich and challenging gameplay mechanics with a beautifully engaging musical score, instantly
making it some of Yoko Taro's best work to date.
Which
makes it all - the - more personally upsetting that, somehow, I can't quite get into
Automata.
But this time, they've selected PlatinumGames to
make sure NieR:
Automata's combat is a «cut» above its predecessor's melee stylings.
I read about the «true» ending of Nier:
Automata before writing this, figuring I would never
make it there myself, and it nearly
made me cry... but when I sat down again to have a crack at getting there, I found that I had no strong desire to keep going.
While Nier:
Automata's core gameplay is notably strong and arguably the highlight of the experience — you can
make the argument that its existentialism story is the true dominating factor — its level design and mission structure leaves much to be desired.
This is the existential sentiment that Nier:
Automata opens on,
making you question everything you think before you even see who is talking.
But
Automata's unconventional and sometimes rough veneer
make slightly opaque a game experience which I've come to return to in my mind the most throughout 2017.
Some of the stages that simply play themselves - aptly dubbed «Don't Move» courses - are breathtaking in their intricacy, like those clockwork
automata that craftsmen used to
make.
Intimate in scale — a theater for an audience of one — and
made to solicit close looking, the work reflects her interests in early clockwork
automata, the history of the mannequin and the puppet, and literature's host of legends in which the artificial figure comes to life.
The clue is in the name here, they're all
automata; moving devices
made by human hands
