We started Sprouting Zen, one day in our dining room table after
making homemade
almond butter and realizing how easy (and utterly satisfying) it was to
make your own food,
at home, with minimal organic ingredients.
I was frustrated
at the
almond butter prices lately and decided to try
making it
at home.
* I would recommend
making the
almond butter the day / night before so you're not
making everything
at once.
1) Pre-heat oven to 300 deg Fahrenheit (150 deg cel) 2) Line one large baking sheet (0r two medium baking sheets) with parchment paper 3) In a large bowl, combine the oats, chia seeds, flax seeds, raisins,
almonds and other nuts, and mix well 4) In a smaller bowl, whisk together the honey, light brown sugar, melted
butter and cinnamon until smooth and sugar has dissolved 5) Pour the honey mixture over the dry ingredients and stir well until you get a homogeneous mixture 6) Pour the mixture over the baking sheets and spread evenly with a spatula, then season lightly with sea salt 7) Bake for 15 minutes, then stir the granola gently (to
make sure all sides are cooked) 8)
At this point, you may need to switch the baking sheets (if you are using 2) so the granola cooks evenly 9) Bake for another 15 minutes, then stir again, before cooking for a final 15 minutes or until golden brown 10) Remove granola from the oven and place on cooking racks until completely cool and crisp 11) Store granola in air - tight containers at room temperatur

It's funny, I've been

butter for quite some time, but never tried raw
almond at home before... I liked this much more than any of the raw nut
butters I've purchased.

By the way, home
made almond butter is very easy (with a food processor) to
make, and much less expensive than buying
at a store.
but given that a 16 oz jar of organic
almond butter costs about $ 22
at my coop, i don't think i'll
make a very big batch anytime soon!
I confess that I have spent lots on money on exotic - sounding / different brands of nut
butters (including chocolate
almond), but I an trying to
make my own more (instead of buying the natural organic ones or using the but
butter grinders
at stores) to save some money.
What else could you
make at home that wasn't either peanut or
almond butter?
I had just finished
making a batch of homemade
almond butter (because I won't spend $ 17 on a jar of organic
almond butter at the store, either), and I decided to try out a chocolate version.
At MaraNatha we
make our raw
almond butter using the
almond industry's definition for raw, which calls for the use of
almonds that are not roasted prior to grinding.
Fresh pressed juices and smoothies available
at the stadium will include the Carpe Diem
made with carrots, cucumber, apple, ginger and lemon; the Love Greens with cucumber, apple, celery, pineapple, ginger, spinach, kale and parsley; the 34 Smoothie
made with banana, cinnamon,
almond butter,
almond milk, vanilla extract; and the Tropical Breeze with pineapple, banana, strawberry, yogurt and coconut water.
They're actually not
at all difficult to
make and a sensible snack option you can feel good about feeding your family with ingredients that include Stella ® cheeses, gluten - free baking mix,
almond meal, flax seed, thyme and
butter.
To
make the
almond butter for the recipe I'm sharing with you today, it took 1 cup raw
almonds, a quick 10 - minute roast
at 325F, and then a whirl in my food processor until a creamy buttery consistency was achieved.
I buy the maranantha
almond butter at Costco on the big jar and it
makes these nut
butter recipes doable coat wise.
The combination of rich, creamy
almond butter, sautéed sweet potatoes, and spices will
make you mmmm your delight
at every bite.
I use
almond butter to
make coconut no bake cookies which are a favorite
at my house.
I have also tried it with Whole Foods 365 vegetable stock (delicious — I think I may like it better than with chicken stock), and I have also
made it without the
almond butter at all, and its still fantastic (and less fat).
Now I
make my own
almond butter at home in the food processor and it's delicious!
This means that
at around 6 months old, pediatricians are suggesting that you give your baby foods like peanut
butter, nut
butter made from tree nuts like
almonds and cashews, eggs, and cow's milk.
Anyway
made it last night but used
Almond butter for the Sunshine sauce because I couldn't find Sunflower
butter made without sugar
at my grocery store: (Maybe I have to do some extra searching for this.
