Some of these
references are hilarious while
others are primarily designed
to make you reminisce of not just video
games, but pop - culture as well.
Further complicating things is the fact that there are various factions within the Darkness that are not above shooting at each
other and it's never quite clear why, and the
game has a love of bombastic dialog filled with
references to things that
make you feel like you're watching the third movie in a trilogy without having seen the first two films.
The Boom Boom Bar in the Super Mario Bros. film is named after Boom Boom - one of many
references the movie
makes to Super Mario Bros. 3 and
other early
games.
In addition, numerous
other games make reference to her.
You'd get
to begin the
game with an extra heart and characters would
reference your exploits from the
other game,
making the world feel more complete.
Fans of XCOM may be able
to find a small level of enjoyment in the
references and tie ins that are
made to the
other games, but even I, as a fan, was extremely confused by the end, specifically concerning the motivations and actions of various characters that
made no sense at all.

What we can tell you though is that Ubisoft
Game has some neat easter eggs that also
make references to other Ubisoft Games, which is nice.
It's a fun
game, and the
references to other games only
makes things better.
There were several moments that are genuinely funny and
made me chuckle, although most of these moments came from
references to other games.
The
game does follow a fast - paced structure and even
makes reference to the films plot from time
to time, but
other than those enjoyable bits it fails in eliciting even basic levels of excitement from players, which is a shame.
However, a June release date
makes sense given that The Incredibles 2movie will release that month and Traveller's Tales
games are known for their humor, which
makes references to other Pixar franchises likely too.
This year's Super Mario Odyssey
made repeated and playful
references to the original Donkey Kong and
other 8 - bit Mario
games; Capcom's finally returning
to a much - loved franchise with next year's Mega Man 11.
