I recommend going the extra step to
making the nut butter too, but provide links to my store bought favorites when this isn't an option.
In stores we only get peanut butter here, so I use food processor to
make nut butters too.
Not exact matches
The spices and maple syrup will react with the
nut butter making it slightly less creamy which is why you don't want to stir it around
too much.
As I often try to give my children energy balls
too, I use Wowbutter (
nut - free,
made from roasted soya but tastes exactly like peanut
butter) and sunflower seeds in place of peanuts.
I

Paleo friends simply use in your fave almond (or
nut butter of choice) in place of the PB and any of you folks with
nut allergies you can easily

nut free — sunbutter (or your fave

nut - free, and loved the texture — neither
too oat - y nor
too oily.
I love all of your date and
nut butter based baked goods and one can never have
too many healthy donut recipes =) I still can't get over what an amazing glaze / icing coconut
butter makes.
Also, my blender is having a very difficult time with the
nuts and seeds, even after soaking overnight they just will not smooth out, so I've been substituting smooth
nut butters (not
too hard to
make even in a cheap food processor, as long as you stop it every few minutes to let the motor cool down — I burned out one food processor
making a
nut butter, letting it run for about 10 minutes solid!)
They would NOT be
too sweet if the
nut butter was pure
nut butter or you just cut out some of the sugar (or both — which is what I would do if I
make it again) so I'm giving the recipe 4 stars because 1) it's redeemable and 2) regardless of the sweetness, I've managed to eat 4 small cookies quite happily.

You should also remember that
butter made of
nuts like almonds, cashews, and peanuts are good protein sources,
too.
Almond Flour For almond flour, I prefer to use a blender or coffee grinder, as the chop is finer and keeps the
nuts from releasing
too much of their natural oil which will
make it more of a flour texture as opposed to
butter.
Try to get some sources of healthy fats with every meal to
make sure you don't go
too low... This could be avocados, any and all
nuts (almonds, walnuts, pistachios, pecans, etc), seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds),
nut butters (almond
butter, natural peanut
butter, etc), virgin coconut oil (good source of medium chain triglycerides), extra virgin olive oil, grass fed beef (good source of conjugated linoleic acid and omega - 3s), whole eggs (yes, whole eggs... not egg whites), etc..
I eat a lot of Greek yogurt, cheese,
make protein fruit smoothies with protein powder, peanut
butter and
nuts and I love fish, chicken, turkey and eggs
too for protein!

nut butter can also be pricey, but thankfully, I figured out a way to
make my own peanut
butter,
make it low fat without weird ingredients, and actually save money
too.
I know that the addition of oil cuts down the processing time quite a lot, but I find it also affects the final consistency of the product,
making it
too soft for my liking, so that's why I stick to
making nut butters without adding any kind of oil whatsoever.
You get all natural delicious
butters for a fraction of the price that you would pay for the ready
made stuff, you get to
make your own flavor combinations, and most of all, you get to lick that delicious warm
nut butter off the spatula and clean the bowl of the food processor real good,
too!
You'll soon find that
making nut butter is very fun and addictive
too.
Nut butters make a good source of protein,
too.
In a perfect world, my almond
butter would be
made with strictly
nuts and no other additions, but four ingredients isn't
too shabby.
And while
nut butters and jam
make the perfect waffle sandwich for the lunchbox, the girls also enjoy having cream cheese and jam, or coconut
butter and jam
too!
