Unfortunately, I also feel compelled to point out that many women's rights advocates are also horrible bigots who trivialize or even laugh at
male victims of sexual
abuse, despite men being on the receiving end
of an estimated 40 %
of domestic violence, and outnumbering women in rape statistics if prison rapes are included.

In one sample
of South African rural youth, the prevalence
of physical and sexual
abuse was shown to be very high with 94.4 %
of men exposed to physical
abuse and 39.1 %
of women to sexual
abuse.46 More than a quarter
of the adults who were interviewed endorsed exposure to childhood adversity (parental death, parental separation or parental divorce) in the SASH study.47 Significantly more women were prone to be
victims of domestic violence than men.47 Women also reported twice as many suicidal attempts as the
male participants in the SASH study.9
However, fathers stand to gain by
abuse protection in the family court too, as more than 40 %
of domestic violence
victims are
male.

Although less is known about the consequences
of domestic violence for
male victims, there is evidence that men who are
abused experience the same constellation
of physical and psychological outcomes as their female counterparts (for reviews, see Dutton, 2007; Hines & Malley - Morrison, 2005).
An analysis
of calls made by
male victims to a national
domestic abuse hotline (Hines et al., 2007) revealed that many men indicated having sought help in the past but having been turned away, laughed at, not taken seriously, and treated as batterers (rather than
victims) by agency workers.
