Rabbits with
malocclusion need to have their teeth trimmed every one to two months or have their incisors extracted.

Orthodontic treatment is
needed for
malocclusions caused by pressure of the tongue on the front teeth during a tongue thrust swallow, or pressure on the lateral teeth because of an unusually wide tongue.
It was thought that with fewer
malocclusions, breastfed children may have a reduced
need for orthodontic intervention.
Most other
malocclusion problems will
need surgery to correct them.
In some rabbits, a
malocclusion (misalignment) of the incisor (front) teeth is congenital ie present from birth and these rabbits will
need treatment and possibly tooth removal.
A rabbit with
malocclusion or other tooth alignment abnormality, trauma or genetic defect may
need routine tooth trims, but this should be done by a qualified rabbit veterinarian.
Diet alone may not prevent all cases of
malocclusion; if your rabbit is predisposed to
malocclusion because of a malformed lower jaw, you'll probably
need to have a veterinarian trim its teeth periodically.
Once a dental
malocclusion (misalignment) is established, it may never go away, and your rabbit may
need frequent dental attention.
Buns with
malocclusions, or crooked teeth, will
need to have their teeth kept trimmed with guillotine - type clippers.
