While there is a growing appreciation of the impact of child
maltreatment on cardiovascular disease risk over the life course, 40 there has been a paucity of research to date that has explored the impact of family violence on obesity risk in early life.
First, low SES in childhood is a recognized risk factor for age - related
disease, such as
cardiovascular disease.24 Childhood socioeconomic disadvantage predicts age - related -
disease risks, such as elevated inflammation levels and the clustering of metabolic risk markers in adulthood.25 - 27 In contrast, the effect of low childhood SES
on later depression risk is debated.28 Second, retrospective investigations and some prospective studies have shown that childhood
maltreatment could contribute to age - related -
disease risks.
