I often use Nigella's Turkish delight figs recipe with rosewater and orange blossom water but it's heavy on the sugar.
It always seems that fig recipes come in AFTER our trees have stopped producing here in Georgia!

Hi Susi, I usually suggest dried figs or prunes as an alternative to dates in my recipes.
I use medjool dates quite a lot in my recipes as they are super sweet and easy to cook with but you could try using prunes or dried figs instead.
I understand if it doesn't work for you though in my recipes I often use it for the specific sweetness or stickiness, so sometimes nut butters (almond, cashew or tahini) can work as a substitute or other oils (olive) or other sticky beauties (dates, figs etc).
We added figs to the original recipe to give a sweet hint to the tanginess from the sourdough.

I came home and started looking for recipes to use my fresh figs.
I actually have an extra open jar of TJ fig butter so I am hoping I can incorporate that into the recipe.
So before I get to the recipe for these delicious Homemade Whole Wheat Fig Newtons, I thought it'd be good to compare the ingredients in my homemade Fig Newtons with the ingredients in the store bought Fig Newtons.
I changed the filling (I did a date and fig filling with a bit of maple syrup lemon zest and lemon juice), but made the dough and assembled the cookies according to the recipe and it was great!

The fresh figs just look so beautiful, I wish I'd had some fresh figs for my tart but my recipes are always the result of «I have nothing to make this recipe, so what can I use instead?!»
This is a GREAT Panna Cotta recipe, and I have changed it up a bit... I love figs and quick saute little mission figs with a balsamic reduction, chill it, and do a light drizzle over the Panna Cotta... sexy stuff.
