Rather than players spawning or dropping into
the map at random points, most Minecraft survival games servers pay tribute to the blockbuster franchise by spawning players in a circle around a huge cache of weapons - when the timer hits zero it's anyone's game.

The only things that really feel
random here are the
maps, which for me
at least is sort of missing the
point.
When you start in the game's sandbox mode (the only mode currently available as The Long Dark is still in Alpha, Early Access), you are dropped
at a
random point on the
map,
at a
random time of day, in
random weather conditions.
Additionally, power weapons are introduced into a game on a
random timer and appear
at random drop
points on the
map.
To generate absence data for each of the 2068 species with
at least 2 specimens, we generated a
random (from 1 to 54) number of informed pseudo-absence data by randomly sampling
points from outside the species» range
map.
