For some, bone marrow transplant from
a matched sibling donor or a matched, unrelated donor may be favored when remission is obtained.
More than 80 percent of XSCID patients, including the infants in this study, do not have
matched sibling donors.
Currently, transplantation with a tissue -
matched sibling donor is the standard treatment for XSCID.
Now patients without
a matched sibling donor can be safely and effectively treated.
