After a thorough read of the three positions described in Climate Dialogue, I conclude that many well
meaning climate scientists are working hard to understand this complex messy system.
If by «CAGW types»

If this exercise is well publicized, millions in America will be saying to themselves, «WTF,

I am assuming with «you»

When I'm less susceptible to seasonal cheer, I will read A-Team's last entry again but does
it mean climate scientists have failed the test of courage.

«If the Senate bill in its final form does not allow companies to use international offsets to achieve their targets, then the U.S. as a source of funding for REDD would die,» said Daniel Nepstad, a senior
scientist with the Woods Hole Research Center, which is a member of Hurowitz's Tropical Forest and
Climate Coalition,
meaning other countries might have to fill that gap with their own funding and offset needs.
Some
scientists, such as NASA climatologist James Hansen, are convinced that using such resources — he calls them «the dirty needle» of an oil addict — will
mean «game - over for
climate change.»
That
means that there is room for a shifting of the numbers, particularly if the news media would make it clearer that there was high agreement among
climate scientists, he said.
Roy Spencer, a
climate scientist at the University of Alabama who argued from the skeptical side, agrees that human contributed carbon dioxide lessens the planet's ability to shed heat,
meaning that warming is likely.
Big icebergs break off Antarctica naturally,
meaning scientists are not linking the rift to manmade
climate change.
«Results from this study are based on current
climate projections, and it doesn't necessarily
mean that lesser prairie - chickens will experience a population decline,» said Blake Grisham, Texas Tech University
scientist and lead author of the study.
Scientists aim to find out why an Alaska glacier is ignoring all
climate signals as it advances to the sea — and what that
means for sea levels around the world.
«Looking at changes in the number of dry days per year is a new way of understanding how
climate change will affect us that goes beyond just annual or seasonal
mean precipitation changes, and allows us to better adapt to and mitigate the impacts of local hydrological changes,» said Polade, a postdoctoral researcher who works with Scripps
climate scientists Dan Cayan, David Pierce, Alexander Gershunov, and Michael Dettinger, who are co-authors of the study.
Similar frustrations, he said, led him and a group of other
climate experts to found the collective blog Realclimate.org several years ago,
meant to bring timely and relevant
climate information direct from
scientists to the public.
The story may be apocryphal, but to Charles Wohlforth it carries a ring of truth: For the lowdown on
climate in the Arctic, he argues, it often makes more sense to consult the plainspoken wisdom of the indigenous Alaskans rather than rely exclusively on abstruse data gathered by well -
meaning but often clueless
scientists.
When
scientists talk about the consequences of
climate change, it can
mean more than how we human beings will be impacted by higher temperatures, rising seas and serious storms.
But for Elizabeth Austin, the project's chief
scientist, there's another thrill: the glider will carry scientific instruments for
climate, aerospace and stratospheric research that can not be done using other
means.

Smith said his study is not
meant to tease out event attribution, and that for many of last year's weather events, it will take months for
scientists to determine which variables are linked to certain parts of
climate change.
So
climate scientists rely on indirect
means, called proxies, to reconstruct past variations in precipitation patterns.
That does not
mean that
scientists can say with certainty if an individual weather event is or is not due to
climate change, notes Karl Braganza, manager of the BOM Climate Monitoring S

Scientists also are studying whether
climate change could
mean more such deep droughts in the future and whether it made the current one worse.
Such trends
mean scientists and policymakers will have to factor in how synthetic
climate forcers other than greenhouse gases will change temperature, rainfall and weather extremes.
It also
means that
scientists and other experts are going to have to monitor measures other than just atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gases to catch catastrophic
climate change developing.
«Until targets are clarified, and metrics agreed upon, zero may
mean nothing at all,» say authors Sandra Brown, chief
scientist with Winrock's Ecosystem Services, and Dan Zarin, program director of the
Climate and Land Use Alliance.
Now, if by impacts, he
means the impacts to ecosystems, etc., it seems unlikely that
climate scientists jockeying for funding would be trying to change the topic of interest from
climate science to these other fields (which I guess gets back to your point that funding self - interest would dictate continuing to emphasize uncertainty).
To reach further back in time and provide a long - term record that can inform global
climate models,
scientists are turning to other
means of measuring ice mass.
But that makes me suspect the sociology article can't be about
scientists directly involved in doing
climate modeling — the modelers have to be explicit about the exact
meaning of each concept taken into account, to be able to do their math.
That doesn't
mean every year will set a record, but «it seems to me quite likely that we have taken the next step up to a new level,» National Center for Atmospheric Research
climate scientist Kevin Trenberth told Climate Central last

This
means that all this time
scientists have drastically underestimated the role these forests play in the greenhouse gas problem and
climate change.
Nine years later, his name appeared on a list of
scientists proposed to the Environmental Protection Agency as arbiters of
climate science for a national debate
meant to provide Americans «true, legitimate, peer - reviewed, objective, transparent discussion about CO ₂.»
In other words, with more nitrogen available, plant life might be able to absorb more CO2 than
climate scientists have been estimating, which
means the planet won't warm as much, despite mankind's pumping CO2 into the atmosphere.
More powerful machines also
means that
scientists are able to run
climate models with higher spatial resolution.
SUMMARY:
Climate scientist Paul Beckwith will tell us why sea ice around the world is in retreat, and what it
means for our weather.
Most
scientists expect the increase in the number of strong hurricanes as the
climate warms to be at the expense of smaller ones,
meaning fewer overall.
This

When a Norwegian
scientist invents a way to shrink humans to five inches tall as a
means of combating pollution,
climate change and sustainability, he decides to make the change.
Really, if you want your portrayal of GOP politicians as the well -
meaning, innocent victims of «exaggeration» by
climate scientists to pass the laugh test, you're going to have to work harder.
As much as possible when addressing the Public,

Please note: Anyone who reads the above as a direct «criticism» or «put down» of M Mann or any agw / cc
climate scientist or any supporter of that science is simply not understanding what's been written here and what it really
means.
I believe that analysis of temperature and dewpoint data at NOAA NWS cooperative
climate station locations, many stations with more than 110 years of daily maximum minimum and
mean temperature data, has great value which is not being fully utilized by
scientists and the public.
By «same trick» I
mean posted some nonsense here, got an inline response by Gavin, and then rather than attempt to hold a rational conversation here has gone over to her own blog, castigated the OP and Gavin's response to her post, and is running with the «

Consider that only in the past 20 years have
scientists began venturing
climate predictions, and there has not even been enough time for many of those projections to verify, and you'll get a sense of what I
mean.
Jim, I
meant no specific claims against
climate scientists or that science should be discarded.
This is what
climate scientists mean when they say that there is warming «still in the pipeline.»
I asked a half dozen I.P.C.C.
scientists about this during a side session at the Copenhagen
climate talks and, in particular, asked them to decipher for me the
meaning of the nested qualifiers in that final statement.
