means of sustaining a livelihood and the decision - making processes that organize and regulate the common life.
And when we consider the ways in which where we come from impacts our lives — the availability
of fair housing,
access to food and education, income
equality — we are drawn back into one
of Gaines» key questions for the viewer: What does freedom really
mean?
If persons with disabilities do not have the
means to
access the courts, the rights to
equality guaranteed in the Canadian Charter
of Rights and Freedoms and in human rights legislation are hallow and meaningless.
And at the heart
of access to services is about the principle
of equality — which in my mind
means giving all Australians, regardless
of background or race, the opportunity to realise the fullest potential for their lives.
