means staying close to home most of the
time.
Keeping a set schedule
means that children tend to wake up at the same
time every day, eat their meals at the same
time, and give parents less trouble when going down for
naps and bedtime because they know what to expect.
That aside I have chronic back pain and a seperated pelvis which
means that I do need to spend her
nap time lying down at the very least.
That
means your child can blissfully enjoy a
nap in the flat position and other
times can enjoy the world go by.
It's natural for children to rebel against
napping from toddlerhood on, but that does not
mean that you can not keep your child on a
nap / quiet
time schedule through kindergarten.
This
means I try to cancel any plans that were made around her regular
nap time as she might need to sleep earlier or longer than usual.
As she does, your assurance that you will be back before
nap time or for afternoon snack, will
mean more and more to her which will enable her to keep herself together for a longer
time.
If you push that afternoon
nap to a later
time, she may skip it completely,
meaning she'll be completely exhausted and cranky by bedtime.

Finally, I can actually work during
nap time, which
means more
time with Mitch at night, a computer-less dinner, and maybe even a show!
If that
means going to bed early on a flight, or pushing yourself to stay awake once you arrive in a new city (even though all you want is a
nap), it's worth it as it'll go a long way in helping you enjoy your
time on vacation!
