Films that might have fit this putative strand included the charming but overlong Timeless Stories, co-written and directed by Vasilis Raisis (and winner
of the Michael Cacoyannis
Award for Best Greek Film), a story that follows a couple (played by different actors at different stages
of the characters» lives) across the temporal loop
of their will - they, won't - they relationship from childhood to middle age and back again — essentially Julio Medem - lite, or Looper rewritten by Richard Curtis; Michalis Giagkounidis's 4 Days, where the young antiheroine watches reruns
of Friends, works in an underpatronized café, freaks out her hairy stalker by coming on to him, takes photographs and molests invalids as a
means of staving off millennial ennui, and causes ripples in the temporal fold, but the film is as dead as she is, so you hardly notice; Bob Byington's Infinity Baby, which may be a «science - fiction comedy» about a company providing foster parents with infants who never grow up, but is essentially the same kind
of lame, unambitious, conformist indie comedy that has characterized U.S. independent cinema for way too long — static, meticulously framed shots in pretentious black and white, amoral yet supposedly lovable characters played deadpan by the usual suspects (Kieran Culkin, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, Kevin Corrigan), reciting apparently nihilistic but essentially soft - center dialogue, jangly indie music at the end, and a pretty good, if belated, Dick Cheney joke; and Petter Lennstrand's loveably lo - fi Up in the Sky, shown in the Youth Screen section, about a young girl abandoned by overworked parents at a sinister recycling plant, who is reluctantly adopted by a reconstituted family
of misfits and marginalized (mostly puppets) who are secretly building a rocket — it's for anyone who has ever loved the Tintin moon adventures,
books with resourceful heroines, narratives with oddball gangs, and the legendary episode
of Angel where David Boreanaz turned into a Muppet.

Again to my surprise two
of my
books and one
of my covers made it to the finals
of the eFestival
of Words — Best
of the Independent eBook
Awards The nominations were by peers,
meaning people somehow connected with writing and / or publishing.
This
means you can
book one - way
awards between cities such as Johannesburg (JNB) to Cape Town (CPT) and a number
of European cities.
For instance, just because you fly 1,504 miles from San Francisco to Austin doesn't
mean that you have now earned enough miles for another trip; rather, the 1,500 - odd miles you just flew have earned you a mere fraction
of what you'll need to
book an
award flight.
If an airline is said to have «good
award seat availability» that
means that each flight has a large number
of seats available to those looking to
book with miles.
But the more expensive
award chart
means you are unlikely to
book as many nights as you would have in the past, reducing the opportunity to use the greater benefits
of Diamond status.
While I typically don't find Hilton
award nights to be good points redemptions, this simple perk
means Hilton properties are almost always at the top
of my list when
booking a cash stay or using a third - party rewards mechanism like Welcome Rewards to make a
booking.
Award tickets may be
booked as shortly as two hours prior to a flight when they are available, and because American itself operates the flight, rather than a partner, that
means that any available seat can be ours for the AAnytime rate
of 35,000 miles.
Booking with us also
means you'll be taken care
of, with our friendly,
award - winning call centre on hand to help with any questions you may have.
Unfortunately, this
means it would cost 160,000 Delta SkyMiles to
book an
award ticket, which is double the saver level mileage cost
of 80,000 miles.
This
means if I
book my
award flight via LifeMiles, I could fly on United from Houston to Chicago, Miami or Bozeman, Montana, for just 15,000 miles round trip instead
of the 25,000 miles that United would want for the same flights.
Passengers can
book one - way
award flights for half the price
of a round - trip
award,
meaning it's possible to combine a few one - way
awards for a tour
of Australia.
As you can see, the lack
of major U.S. partners doesn't
mean you can't
book an
award flight on a U.S. carrier if they offer the best route to your destination.
You can also
book Cathay Pacific
awards, however it needs two separate
awards as per the rules
of AAdvantage for travelling to India on trans - pacific routes, which
means you need 57,500 miles for a one - way economy and 85,000 miles for a one - way business class
award to India.

The changes to the hotel categories
mean little without some context, so here is the Hilton HHonors
award chart which shows how many points are required to
book a night at each category
of hotel:
You can also
book Cathay Pacific
awards, however it needs two separate

of AAdvantage for traveling to India on trans - pacific routes, which
means you need 62,500 miles for a one - way economy, 110,000 miles for a one - way business class
award to India and 160,000 miles for a one way first class
award to India.
Hawaiian Airlines also isn't a member
of any alliance, but it does have a partnership agreement with American, which
means you can
book award seats using AAdvantage currency.
In her fifth novel, Horn, a two - time winner
of the National Jewish
Book Award, draws on Jewish history and mysticism for a powerful and moving exploration
of what it would
mean to be immortal.
Since not many
of us earn the required status, that
means most
of us can't
book first class
awards... so we are leaving it out
of the discussion here.
British Airways utilizes a distance - based
award chart, which
means that the number
of miles to
book an
award depends on how far the destination city is from the departure city.
That
means if you want to
book a trip using US Airways» cheaper
award chart, lax routing rules and incompetent agents before they get converted to American Airlines AAdvantage miles, you must do it by the last week
of March 2015.
The huge diversity
of transfer partners
means that you can find
award space in the program you want to use and then transfer the points to
book that
award.
Yes, there may be times when it's cheaper to
book an
award than pay for a cash fare but the fact that
award availability and the cost
of fares are both linked to demand
means that it's not all that likely circumstances like that will appear all that often.
To clarify, I
mean if you're paying cash (by cash I
mean hopefully using a credit card that gets travel
awards) for your economy ticket, you may be able pay a similar amount
of cash to buy points / miles and then use those points / miles to
book premium cabin travel.
A lot
of alliance partners don't allow you to search for
award availability for other partners on their website and that's really annoying because that
means you'll always have to call in to
book and you're not sure what that airline is seeing in terms
of award availability.
But I did have the advantage
of being able to transfer directly to Delta from Membership Rewards, which
meant I could
book a Delta
award at any price.
This
means that AAdvantage members who find and
book award space before this deadline could save thousands
of miles, especially for business - and first - class travel.
We each have about 100,000 United miles, which typically isn't enough for the types
of awards we
book,
meaning that we would likely have to top off our accounts with Chase UR before redeeming for anything.
Booking as soon as airlines release
award space
means that you'll have a lot
of time between making your reservation and traveling.
This type
of dynamic pricing will
mean more
awards available to the public since you'll be able to
book any available seat (on Flying Blue airlines like KLM, Air France, etc.).
This is key because it
means that American Airlines is one
of the few good ways to
book award travel on Etihad; other oneworld Alliance members don't collaborate with them.
Not only that, but just last week, BA announced that its lowest 4,500 - Avios
awards would be eliminated within the US,
meaning awards booked on American Airlines using BA Avios are going to get more expensive as
of February 2016.
After watching my starpoints grow very slowly @ 1 / $ on my SPG AMEX to a grand total 12K over 2 - 3 years (it
means I spent $ 12K), I just decided to put them to good use and
booked a one - night cash + points
award that cost me 5K starpoints + US$ 75 at Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel in a couple
of weeks — a really great «value».
Overall, this partnership is good news because Virgin Atlantic is a transfer partner
of American Express Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest, so there are now more options to
book Delta flights without having SkyMiles (though partners like Virgin Atlantic only get access to low - level
awards,
meaning availability can be slim on certain routes).
Since AA got rid
of their international stopovers, does this
mean I have to
book 2 separate
awards to visit both countries?
This
of course does not
mean there will be any Lufthansa First Class
award space for the particular flight you want, just that you won't be able to
book it, if available, further in advance than that.
