President Mahama said before leaving Accra that «the London Summit provides an opportunity to demonstrate once again the
measures we have been adopting to strengthen our fight
against corruption, combat
money laundering and counter the financing of terrorism.»
The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has warned that legislation in today's Queen's Speech must have effective guidance so that companies know when they are taking adequate
measures to guard
against rogue members of staff facilitating tax evasion or
money laundering.
In the second case, if certain specific offences are committed (in particular
money laundering, corruption in the private or public sectors, criminal organisation, etc), charges can be brought
against the company irrespective of the criminal liability of any individual, provided the corporation failed to take all reasonable organisational
measures that were required in order to prevent such an offence.
