When asked which
measures would most likely improve
social mobility and help disadvantaged young people get on in life, almost half
of respondents (47 per cent) chose «high - quality teaching in comprehensive schools», ahead
of two
social mobility policies adopted by the main parties in the recent election.
The announcement last week included support for underperforming schools alongside a package
of measures to offer young people more opportunities to make the best
of their lives in
social mobility «cold spots».
A separate
measure of how many students came from disadvantaged backgrounds also saw a fall, the
