His instinctive and scattergun approach to collecting makes for a
show that's wildly energetic and enthralling: an eerie cowhide and resin
installation (Nandipha Mntambo's Enchantment) stands erect and proud like a regal spectre in the middle of the space; it mingles with arresting monochrome portraits of children with cement dust faces by Mário Maculau; a comedic and surreal ink drawing of a goat at an office desk by Ato Malinda; a sweet and naively rendered mixed
media work by Richard Kimathi depicting a couple, the man delineated through a pistol on his crotch.
Opening: Sam Moyer, «More Weight» at Rachel Uffner Gallery For her third solo
show at the gallery, Sam Moyer will present a monumental
installation involving a giant slab of marble and mixed
media wall works incorporating dyed fabric on wood,
media that comprised her previous
show last April.
She was also included in the 2014 Texas Biennial, had a solo
show at Women and Their Work, and her mixed
media installation, Paper City, is part of the Biennial: 600 Sculpture exhibition at the Amarillo Museum of Art.
I'm not one to make restrictions on
media, but rather than having all kinds of
media — photography, video, immersive
installations — I decided to keep it a tighter
show.
The project is represented in the
show through
installation, replete with company branding, advertising, fabricated uniforms, a website, social
media, photo, video and a secured area with sentry shed and boom.
The
show will present works from each artist including, but not limited to drawings, paintings, mixed
media works,
installation, film and sculpture.
Longe's mixed
media works and
installations have been exhibited in San Francisco at The Popular Workshop, The Luggage Store Gallery, and Triple Base, in Oakland at Krowswork gallery, and in Los Angeles at
Show Cave Night Gallery.
The
show, curated by Beth Giacummo, presents interpretations of structures found in everyday lives resulting in new forms expressed through painting, drawing,
installation and mixed
media.
The photographs they are contributing to this
show are derived from a mixed
media installation that takes Sigmund Freud's residence and antiquity collection, which saw different kinds of violences in the aftermath of Freud's exile, as its point of departure.

The Institute of Contemporary Art, London is now hosting Woodman's first solo
show in the UK, which features her recent forays into painting and mixed -
media installations — evidence that even at 85, she is still searching for new ways to express herself.
Following that is the very popular and much anticipated annual group exhibition «The Summer
Show,» which opens June 17 and features more than 40 works in various
media — including painting, sculpture, works on paper, photography, video and
installation — by gallery and guest artists.
Featuring twelve artists working across varied
media, this
show will explore the formal tool of antithesis as it is manifest in works that run the gamut from video and
installation, to painting and photography.
Spanning the entirety of WhiteBox's two - leveled exhibition space, the
show features the video, sculpture, murals,
installation, and two - dimensional
media works by over 50 Japanese artists who emigrated to New York during the formative stages of their careers.
This
show is part of a twenty - year direction of contemporary art away from traditional
media and object - based art works towards
installation, social platforms, participatory social engagement and collaboratives.
The
installation will
show media across an array of displays, ranging from monitors to projections, and will emphasize the temporal nature of broadcast.
