Gender pay gap reporting legislation will require large employers to publish their overall mean and
median gender pay gaps.
Over 40 of the 100 employers reporting the largest
median gender pay gaps in the education sector are multi-academy trusts and schools.
The median gender pay gap for all teachers in all schools and academies is around 4 per cent, but the gap rises to almost 8 per cent for senior leaders and is highest at almost 10 per cent for head teachers and principals.

The majority have reported
a median gender pay gap in excess of 36 per cent, while those in the top 100 for all employers have pay gaps in excess of 50 per cent.
Macmillan Publishing International Limited (MPIL) has revealed that it's

The organisation to have reported the highest
median gender pay gap so far is Rectella Limited with 88.0 %.

As with
the median gender pay gap, employers will use data from a «snapshot» period in April.
This is illustrated by the fact that when one company's zero figures were challenged it changed its results and published a mean gender pay gap of 32.6 % and
a median gender pay gap of 76.5 %.

Mandatory figures for reporting include the

Whilst it is not impossible for a Company to have a zero
gender pay gap it is highly improbable that the
gap would be zero when measured on both a mean and a
median basis.
Companies with more than 250 employees now have to release both their
median and mean
gender pay gap figures by April 2018.
