While I am not familiar with the adoption policies of all the
rescue groups and shelters in the
area, I do know that many of them do not adopt out animals the same day that you
meet them.
Staff quickly reached out to
area shelters and
rescue groups, some as far as 100 miles away, to help those agencies alleviate their overcrowding challenges - and to
meet the demand for adult cats during the promotion.
Maybe it's just where I live (my part of the country lacks enough shelter dogs from the local
area to
meet demand, so
rescues routinely bring in hundreds of dogs from outside the
area), but between the
groups who are adopting out dogs
rescued from fighting rings and those importing semi-feral street dogs, it seems to me that there is perhaps a mismatch between the heartfelt desire to help and the number of owners who, realistically, can be expected to have the extreme expertise and commitment needed to safely integrate these special - circumstance dogs into social situations.
