Once Christianity was established on Hellenistic soil, the term «Lord»
tended to take its meaning primarily from its use to ascribe divine honors to emperors or to the gods who presided over the mystery cults, not to
mention its use in the Greek Bible to render the unspeakable
name of Yahweh.
