But even the most committed among us face real - world
challenges that can make family dinners hard: late hours at the office, sports team practices, extracurricular school activities, «picky» eaters at the table, and / or a lack of confidence in our

Challenge,
menu planning and cooking event for high school students, is an important example of how aspiring chefs get started and learn to create winning recipes.
The competition showcases the hard work and creativity of Middle School teams across the district as they are
challenged to
plan a reimbursable lunch
menu that includes the appropriate meal components (meat / meat alternate, grain, milk, fruit and vegetable), follows the USDA National School Lunch guidelines, and costs no more than $ 1.20 for the entire meal.
In response to Committee member questions, Ms. Bauscher also discussed SNA's requests for
menu planning flexibility under the new standards and examples of
challenges cited by school cafeterias across the country.
Although USDA has acknowledged that
menu planning in such schools can be
challenging, USDA's current guidance does not provide these districts flexibility to assist their efforts to comply.
Although no two schools manage their kitchens,
plan their
menus, or balance their budgets in exactly the same way, many face common
challenges.

One of my favorite ways to
plan and prepare our dinner
menu is by
challenging myself to evolve one meal into another (and then, into another).
I enjoy the
challenge of
menu planning, bringing different groups of people together, and even the endless days of preparation... the reward being able to participate, and watch it all unfold!
