LONDON (Reuters)- Nations including the United States and Sweden are advancing plans to launch a new fund this year to pay for
methane emission reduction projects in the developing world.

These «vulnerable»
projects — for example, which reduce
methane emissions or industrial waste gases — could supply up to 700 million CERs for their
emission reduction activities between 2013 to 2020.
This
project is a collaborative effort between NEWS, which owns and operates the landfill's waste - to - energy generation; Clinton County, which owns the landfill; and NativeEnergy, which has contracted to purchase the verified carbon offsets associated with certain
methane emission reductions from the
project.
Requires the EPA Administrator to promulgate regulations establishing a program for the issuance of offset credits that: (1) ensure that such offset credits represent verifiable and additional GHG
emission reductions or avoidance, or increases in sequestration; (2) ensure that offset credits issued for sequestration offset
projects are only issued for GHG
reductions that are permanent; and (3) include as
reductions in GHGs
reductions achieved through the destruction of
methane and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) or other ozone depleting substances.
Reductions in some short - lived human - induced
emissions that contribute to warming, such as black carbon (soot) and
methane, could reduce some of the
projected warming over the next couple of decades, because, unlike carbon dioxide, these gases and particles have relatively short atmospheric lifetimes. The amount of warming
projected beyond the next few decades is directly linked to the cumulative global
emissions of heat - trapping gases and particles.
IGRS offers complete design, build, own and operate solutions for landfill gas utilization,
methane control and
emission reduction projects across Canada.
Increases in CO2,
methane or nitrous oxide, if significant and attributable to the
project activity, must be quantified and deducted from net
emission reductions.
