Brain imaging performed when the children were between 6 and 10 years old revealed abnormalities in the thickness of the brain cortex of the precuneus and rostral
middle frontal region.

Eating behaviors are also linked to areas of the brain associated with self - control (such as the left superior
frontal region) and visual attention (such as the right
middle temporal
region).
There was also left
middle and superior orbital
frontal gyri activity,
regions often associated with action monitoring.»
Following our pre-registered specification to include 10 GM
regions, we selected the following 10 ROIs, bilaterally averaged: the
frontal pole, superior
frontal gyrus,
middle frontal gyrus, inferior
frontal gyrus (pars triangularis and pars opercularis subdivision), supramarginal gyrus (posterior and anterior), angular gyrus,
frontal medial cortex and the cingulate gyrus.
As such, the current study aimed to characterize connectivity between two key
regions implicated in semantic control: inferior
frontal gyrus, pars triangularis (IFGtri) and posterior
middle temporal gyrus (pMTG), during a semantic association task in four BAA and four age - matched, healthy bilingual controls (BHC).
We also found significant interactions between the right
middle frontal gyrus (as seed) and the right pars triangularis / inferior
frontal sulcus and bilateral AIC with respect to GRAMMATICALITY Other combinations of contrasts and seed
regions did not yield significant results.
Using the refined model, activity was observed in the right pars opercularis, right pars triangularis, and bilateral anterior insular cortices for the contrast UNGRAMMATICAL > GRAMAMTICAL (seed
regions in red), and the right
middle frontal gyrus and right inferior parietal lobule for the contrast TWO - LoE > ONE - LoE (seed
regions in blue).
Cluster a (a) shows the default mode network, consisting of
frontal regions, including superior
frontal gyrus (BA 8/9) and medial
frontal gyrus (BA 10/11) and precuneus / posterior cingulate cortex (BA 23/31) and bilateral
regions overlapping
middle / superior temporal tyrus (BA 21/39) and inferior / superior parietal cortex (BA 39/40).
We hypothesized that whole - brain and
region - of - interest analyses would identify differences in cortical thickness in prefrontal (especially anterior cingulate,
middle frontal gyrus and orbitofrontal cortex) brain
regions in female adolescents with early onset SUD, compared to controls.
