Rodgers is keen to bring in a creative midfielder who can ably link
midfield and attack whilst also offering a fresh goal threat and with this in mind he has set his sights on Ajax playmaker Christian Eriksen, who is of course a long term Liverpool target.

midfielder whilst also being able to provide the goal threat
and assist making attributes of an
attacking midfielder.
The Reds also have other dangerous customers in the shape of flying winger Michael Antonio
and precocious young
midfielder Ben Osborn, however,
whilst Leeds have a youngster to watch of their own in academy graduate Alex Mowatt,
whilst young
attacking midfielder Adryan, on loan from Flamengo, is also exciting.
The Spanish giants are currently spoilt for choice in the
attacking midfield department, having signed James Rodriguez in a big - money deal from AS Monaco this summer,
whilst also having the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo
and Gareth Bale to choose from in that part of the pitch.
Man United currently rely a great deal on veteran Paul Scholes
and do not really possess much in the way of a goal threat with the likes of Michael Carrick, Anderson
and Darren Fletcher not being all that
attack minded,
whilst also not providing a great deal in the way of a link between
midfield and attack, being more concerned with keeping hold of the ball.
A
midfield 3 of either Xhaka - Ramsey - Coquelin or Xhaka - Elneny - Coquelin, will allow us more of a presence in the
midfield and allow the team in general to move further up the pitch, seeing as in the past two games the back line
and the
midfield has constantly sat back inviting pressure to build up,
whilst the
attacking trio of Theo, Ozil
and Sanchez would just remain up top.
Draxler
and Lucas can fill the void left by Sanchez as well as help Ozil to create
attacks whilst Verratti would be the ideal central
midfielder to fill the void in the absence of Carzola.
Marvin Sordell
and Lukas Jutkiewicz will vie for a place in
attack, but the likes of David Jones
and Arfield from
midfield may be their best chance of a goal,
whilst Mike Duff continues to marshal a surprisingly solid back line that could give the relegation favourites a genuine chance of survival.
Predominately Mkhitaryan plays in the centre
attacking midfield position
and whilst I can not see Ozil being displaced, there is a chance the Dortmund player could be effective out wide on the Arsenal right flank.
However,
whilst both our
midfield and attack were poor yesterday, the defence is the real problem in our team.
At CF Giroud
and Walcott are both showing their ability with completely different playing styles,
whilst the right of the
attacking 3
midfielders sees Ramsey
and chamberlain currently competing, but when welbeck
and wilshire return you will see 4 players all with different playing styles competing for that position.
Thus far this summer Rodgers has signed
attacking midfielder Roberto Firmino
and Danny Ings, both of whom can score goals,
whilst Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Daniel Sturridge
and Fabio Borini also remain at the Merseyside outfit.
We sat off them
and let them play around us,
whilst allowing City to get through the gears extremely quickly almost taking the ball from their defence to their
attack without even passing our
midfield.
Although we have plenty of youngsters in
midfield, I'd expect an experienced central
midfield of Xhaka
and Coquelin,
whilst The Ox
and Reine Adelaide should get an opportunity in
attacking midfield roles.
Klopp has Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane
and Daniel Sturridge to choose from in his
attack whilst Adam Lallana has returned over Christmas so could start in central
midfield to support the front three.
Suarez could single - handily spearhead their
attack with Kenny possibly opting to pack the
midfield in a bid to bolster Liverpool's creativity levels in the middle
whilst also combating a combative
and well organised Baggies
midfielder / defence.
Sebastian Larsson
and Ki Sung - Yueng, who completed 100 % (20/20) of his
attacking third passes against Liverpool, are both extremely comfortable when in possession
and with Lee Cattermole adding increased steel in combination with their patience on the ball, Sunderland look far more balanced in
midfield and all three will try to prevent Rooney from picking up the ball in dangerous areas
whilst providing good service for both Johnson
and Giaccherini to flourish.
Our defensive
midfielder has to be one who can defend
and then turn into a ball player in a blink of an eye (Eric Dier),
whilst the attackers are given license to
attack, but have a defensive responsibility.
Per Mertesacker has installed more calm in the side than many recognise,
whilst Mikel Arteta's assured control
and passing has allowed Aaron Ramsey to regain form as our most
attacking midfield player.
Whilst centre - backs
and defensive
midfielders are probably the first players that spring to mind when you think of strength
and endurance, there are a number of smaller — much lighter —
attacking players who aren't afraid of a tussle.
Mo
and James will still be in the holding
midfield positions,
whilst Ross Barkley is in the centre which allows him not only to drop back
and defend but also help the team
attack.
Whilst the
attack is awaiting it's full potential to be unlocked, the
midfield is improving
and a defence still being rebuilt is showing promise.
Raheem Sterling would drop deep to form a
midfield three with Allen
and Can,
whilst Can would also attempt to get up alongside Sterling in
attack.
Arsenal spent over # 40 million on one of the top
attacking midfielders in the world,
and whilst most fans were shouting out with joy, or putting little dots over their o's in their twitter name, it seems many people think the money should have...
To conclude, Klopp need not surrender his philosophies to accommodate Liverpool's best players into one starting XI, he only needs to put them in positions they are fairly comfortable with,
and that way the team as a unit can succeed; with Benteke as the focal point of the
attack, but Sturridge
and Firmino also expected to chip in with a decent goal contribution,
whilst Coutinho, Henderson (when fit)
and Firmino can all provide a creative aspect to outweigh any creative spark lost by not having Coutinho at the very middle of the
attacking midfielders.
