Newspapers seem to suggest Wilshere needs to own the holding
midfield role if he wants a carreer at Arsenal.

Bottom line,
if he is angered bench the players who were not good enough and play those who deserve some game time based on the Southampton game or on games where they had a positive impact: - Take Özil out and play Ox in the hole (he has to understand your the highest paid player of the club, your given freedom like nobody else and your even seeking even more money with a new contract you can't play like that ever and go AWOL)- Put Sanchez on the wing or up top but put Welbeck in (Walcott didn't track back near enough for the Alsonso goal)- Iwobi has been bright from the wing let him play there - Xhaka has to go back in the holding
midfield role and I would take out Coquelin because he could've taken a foul on the hazard's goal.
Play Wilshere ahead of Ramsey that's all I'm asking for, put him in the centre alongside either LeCoq or Elneny so we can see
if he will thrive in the deep
midfield role.
Chambers would have been playing the holding
midfield / 3rd Central Defender

Coutinho scored 14 goals and provided nine assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool this past season, but
if he were to move to Barcelona, then as detailed by Tite, he would have to move back into a
midfield role given the current attacking trident at the Nou Camp with Neymar, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi.

midfield but
if not then I think it should be Rosicky that comes in with Cazorla moving back into the number 10
role.

On Loan * Akpom (depends on our striker buy) * Crowley (he needs to step up and fulfill his potential) * Zelalem (had hot and cold season with Glasgow, would be great
if he can be loaned out another year) * Maintland - Niles (hot and cold too, plus we are packed on the right) * Bielik (lets see what he is made of) * Glen Kamara (

if his best
role has perhaps been in front of the back four.
The Wingers will provide support to the three - man
midfield of Elneny or Xhaka (I would go with Elneny right now) in the defensive
midfield role; Ramsey in the Vieira
role — Yes, our Vieira,
if well motivated, is Ramsey — and Ozil in the attacking
midfield role.
I see no reason why we won't sign a quality striker that will be an upgrade on Giroud and a quality winger or
midfielder that will make up for the loss of Sanchez
if he goes or take Santi's
role.
Possible rotations which wouldn't weaken the team significantly... Gab for Per Debuchy for Hector (
if Debuchy is alright) Gibbs for Monreal Theo for Rambo (Theo can play as a true RW with Debuchy being restraint in his forward runs) Jack for Santi (Jack to do the Deep Lying
role) Welbz for Sanchez (stick to the right... will support Gibbs on his forward runs) Rosicky for Ozil (TR7 is still an effective creator and adds bite to the
midfield)
@TH14atl the list of the players you gave me were players who were naturally central
midfielders but could play in cmf position and you also gave me no 10's who could also play cmf so i do not get your take. However did you see that they were being played in their best positions.I am also against Ramsey on the wing but i will not be blinded by the fact that
if he should be put in box to box
role he will be better than santi in that
role. But from what you said i think we might just sell cant we.Have you forgotten the man utd match last season where peeps were like O!

If I were Wenger would definitely test Wellbeck in LWB — allow us to put Sead in defensive
midfield role — he could be awesome.

442 diamond - like formation might work
if we had the base of the diamond as a dedicated defensive
midfielder role with Coquelin (or new addition, or even perhaps Elneny), playmaker at the top of the diamond, the side operating like wingers (or falling back for more defensive cover as required) and two strikers.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute...
if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch
midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season,
if he thought otherwise... as for our
midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the
midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced
role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's
midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit...
if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon,
if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
the only two or three veiera type
midfielders there are around at the moment are pogba, kondogbia, (could have got him
if wenger wernt so tight with the money) maybe carvalho the last two might need to be molded more into that
role than pogba mind you, but they have the right game for it.
If that is the role he is set to play for England, I would not be surprised if Arsene Wenger tries him out there for Arsenal as well, especially as the Frenchman seems to have something against a traditional defensive midfielde

Auba and Mik are gud signings
if we get them but we still need a top class D / M and push Xhaka further up in no. 8
role where he is best gud then get rid of Wilshire and Ramsay as they are average, Arsenal is too big for them then have them replaced by one gud central attacking
midfielder.
He can be a disciplined enough player to play the holding
role if thats whats required of him and he'll generally bring a lot of physicality to our
midfield which we've lacked for a bit.
If we make the mistake of not finding a quality DM to make the holding
midfield role competitive for Coq and to ensure we always have a fresh pair of legs to do the dirty job for us in the
midfield is equivalent to shooting ourselves in the foot.
That would allow Milner to return to a
midfield role, although he can obviously offer that versatility to cover at full - back
if necessary, with Liverpool needing quality and depth across the pitch as they look to complete on various fronts next season including in the Champions League
if they can make it through the qualifying round.
Ramsey is a pretty good marauding
midfielder and the only other person in our team capable of playing this
role is Wilshere
if only he can stay fit (My heart breaks for him just like it did for Rosicky and Diaby).
If you observe closely, you'll see that Wenger's 3 -4-2-1 is much more fluid than Chelsea's primarily because of the
role of Ramsey who has the energy to play as an attacking
midfielder and a false 9.
If you've watched the last few games Santi has been playing in a more deeper
role of
midfield alongside Coq.
If Iwobi can work on his defensive game, putting tackles in and having the right stamina, He should be ahead of Ramsey in that central
midfield role.
The veteran
midfielder has enjoyed a fine,
if diminished
role with the Blues this season, and upon the release of the Premier League's free agent list Lampard has yet to be offered an extension at Stamford Bridge, and as it stands he is up for grabs.
Kinda makes sense though, the only reason people are asking for another CDM is because we all fear the possibility of injury to coquelin and know flamini is usless, beilick is inexperienced so it begs the question what happens
if an injury where to occur, but wîth how many
midfielders we have in the squad i think it could allow us to change a tactical approach and potentially experiment with people like Ramsey and Wishere potentially playing a deeper
role??? But the striker is a must as i mentioned earlier Giroud went 8 games without scoring a goal and none of the other strikers stepped up to the plate, we cant have a drought of goals when your the quest for titles...
And Yaya is a b2b which happens to be a completely different
role from being a playmaker, and even then Ozil is the better
midfielder in every single department excluding physical strength,
if Yaya was as good as you claim then he wouldn't have been used as a CB when he was at Barca.
Retaining Coquelin in the holding
role will be key to our early season form, and
if Arsene brings in a striker, another strong
midfielder and maybe a CB and a GK then we have a good chance of being the champions of England come May next year.
If Ramsey keeps with this mind set then we desperately need another central
midfielder who knows what his
role.
Ox - 5 horrible on the left, took too many shots from outside his range (I so wish we had a couple attacking
midfielders that could shoot from outside the box with any consistency)... showed some composure when he moved back to the right side, especially when he took on the RB
role once Giroud came in for Holding... his versatility is great but only
if Wenger uses him on the right side
Ozil needs to be played more centrally
if we hope to benefit from his creativity with the ball and Welbeck's first touch is far too sloppy to be played along side Lacazette... we need to find a formation which allows more service to those making runs from the middle of the pitch... Lacazette can not play so much with his back to goal or we're simply playing the same unsuccessful offensive scheme we played with Giroud, who is much better in that type of
role... I can only hope we keep Sanchez and purchase a true defensive
midfielder then switch to a 4 -4-1-1, which allows us to have Ozil play more centrally with Sead and Sanchez on the left side and Ox and Bellerin on the right, which would stretch defences so much that we could overwhelm most opponents with both runs in behind and overlapping runs out wide
And I also think the
midfield would be as strong as that of Man City and Chelsea especially
if we play Rosicky or Ramsey in the Number 10
role.
In Wenger's traditional 4 -2-3-1 formation, Lemar could either take over Cazorla's
role as the deeper - lying playmaker with a licence to roam forward or play on the left wing, but
if Wenger decides to stick with the formation he finished last season with, three at the back, Lemar might struggle to displace Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as one of the two attacking
midfielders, however, that might change
if one or both players leave the club.
Especially
if we get Lemar our attack will be absolutely stacked with talent and depth so the last remaining position would be a roaming center
midfielder that could also potentially play a CDM
role.
I think Tiote would be a great addition for the Gunners, but I would be surprised
if Wenger thought the same, because his game is all about breaking up play and making tackles, not the all - round sort of
midfielder that Wenger seems to like in the central
role.
He's a very similar player to the squad members already fighting for a place in
midfield and
if Arsenal have plans of using Wilshere next season, then Barkley's
role in the team becomes redundant.
Even
if the 3 old timers move on a fit
midfield could boast, coquelin elneny ramsey wilshire cazorla hayden zelalem toral ozil iwobi chamberlain alexis Campbell gnabry with Welbeck giroud and Welbeck again fighting for the lone strikers
role.
Now I am going to suggest that
if we can't attract a world - class holding
midfielder (not talking blood - n - guts destroyer here but more a cultured interceptor, reads the play well, tackles effectively, good passing range, breaks up attacks and recycles the ball quickly into attacking moves — so not Wanyama) to provide cover for the ever - improving Coquelin, we probably shouldn't worry too much because we have Rambo who can step into that
role when Coquelin or Santi aren't available (injured / suspended).
It goes Giroud > Perez > Sanchez > Walcott for ST. Elneny, Ramsey, Coquelin are plenty backup for the three
midfield positions and we also have wingers that can play the
role if need be.
Wilshere has been injury prone but has been injury free for a good while now... Missing a friendly against holland is hardly a sign of medical catastrophe so this is a massive overreaction... Wilshere is by a very long way the best of the British stable at arsenal and on his day he is a top flight creative
midfield play maker... Don't take my word for it ask xavi arguably the best ever in that
role... Since his return he has shown signs of his best but not over 90 mins... But wenger has played him all over the place does not no how to combine him with ozil and miki and surrounded him with utterly hapless players like Ramsey and xhaka... He needs a new manager to bring best out of him I hope at arsenal but
if the fossil stays he should go...
i hope your right there there is talk that we might be extending arteta's contract by a year, i am of the mind that we should say thanks for all your effort here is a little gold cannon enjoy your retirement and come back
if you want to do some coaching in a year or 2, as well as replacing diaby and flamini thats gonna cost hopefully hayden will step in to d / m and grow in to that
role for us and we could get someone else in the jan window, i think wenger will do the
midfield replacements in jan in advance of summer so he doesn't have to next summer.
If you took the high energy game of the box to box
midfielder and mixed it with a more creative
role like a deep lying
midfielder or advanced playmaker, then what you get is a roaming playmaker.
His
role will be the most key for the home side,
if they were to take the game to the opposition in terms of not just stopping the likes of De Bruyne and Silva dictating the tempo from
midfield, but also initiating attacking moves himself from deep with his rather underrated passing range.
