midfield role.

midfield for everything to work.
But buddy, wen get picks the players, weber buts the players (or not as has been seen recently) weber sticks with those players when like Ozil last night, they don't perform,
so yea the players didn't do what they should have BUT it's wen gers fault that we didn't have a mire clinical finisher up front who would have put away the chances that group missed, it's wengers fault that Arteta and canola were Un able to play the defensive
midfield role; it's wengers fault that he didn't buy backup for coquellin.

midfield role that we need an addition, I'm hearing carvalho is back on, hope

@TH14atl the list of the players you gave me were players who were naturally central
midfielders but could play in cmf position and you also gave me no 10's who could also play cmf
so i do not get your take. However did you see that they were being played in their best positions.I am also against Ramsey on the wing but i will not be blinded by the fact that if he should be put in box to box
role he will be better than santi in that
role. But from what you said i think we might just sell cant we.Have you forgotten the man utd match last season where peeps were like O!
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch
midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd,
so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through
so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back
so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our
midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks
so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the
midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced
role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone
so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's
midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London,
so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence...
so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
the only two or three veiera type
midfielders there are around at the moment are pogba, kondogbia, (could have got him if wenger wernt
so tight with the money) maybe carvalho the last two might need to be molded more into that
role than pogba mind you, but they have the right game for it.
Playing in defensive
midfield this season, Eric Dier has looked solid
so far for Tottenham and seems likely to resume this
role against City.
According to The Sun, United are targeting Juventus
midfielder Blaise Matuidi, with the 30 - year - old making 36 appearances
so far this season for the Turin giants as he continues to play a pivotal

It certainly was but with
so many players now competing for central
midfield, including the likes of Arteta, Wilshere, Ox, Rosicky and even Diaby, will Cazorla's versatility mean that he does not always get to play in his best
role.
I have time and again said I do not understand what ramsey's
role in the
midfield is — Xhaka does not have pace and does not WANT to tackle (which is good because the moment he does we will be a man down)--
so why is then Ramsey bombing up the pitch — because everytime Xhaka misplaces a pass the opposition will easily outpace him and run straight at the defence.
The Bosnian international is mainly used as a left back but also has the versatility to play in any defensive
role as well as in
midfield,
so he sounds like a fantastic asset for Arsenal to have.
Welbeck should never play striker ever again, he should be an attacking
midfielder, his athleticism is perfect for that
role, i watched Jack Wilshere in both of the U-23 games, he was brilliant and he was everything that i wish Xhaka was, also every time Coquelin has came to pitch he has been good
so he should have a place in the starting line up.
You know there are other formations that do nt neccesarily require a CDM, with the
midfielders we have i think we have the luxury of contemplating different tactical approaches, Wishere has shown the an ability of playing a deeper
role not neccesarily DM, more on the lines of a deep lying playmaker,
so the reason we shouldn't experiment and see weather it could actually work is because seancali doesn't believe it would work...
Kinda makes sense though, the only reason people are asking for another CDM is because we all fear the possibility of injury to coquelin and know flamini is usless, beilick is inexperienced
so it begs the question what happens if an injury where to occur, but wîth how many
midfielders we have in the squad i think it could allow us to change a tactical approach and potentially experiment with people like Ramsey and Wishere potentially playing a deeper
role??? But the striker is a must as i mentioned earlier Giroud went 8 games without scoring a goal and none of the other strikers stepped up to the plate, we cant have a drought of goals when your the quest for titles...
OX, Xhaka, monreal, bellerin OX - he want a more central
role never found in him the skills to thrive through the congested arsenal's
midfield, apart from some glimpses in former years of his career,
so he is a GO.
Sparagna, who can either play at centre - half or in a holding
midfield role, has already played for the French U20 side, however he has only featured six times for Marseille
so far.
Ox - 5 horrible on the left, took too many shots from outside his range (I
so wish we had a couple attacking
midfielders that could shoot from outside the box with any consistency)... showed some composure when he moved back to the right side, especially when he took on the RB
role once Giroud came in for Holding... his versatility is great but only if Wenger uses him on the right side
you know its funny how things change
so fast cech was a backup at chellsh $ t welbz was manures scape goat le coq was loaned to a championship club monreal our scape goat ramsey was more than awful last season ozil was anonymous in the big stage cazorla was out of form in the first part of last season now walcott is the lone striker ozil is our leader ramsey is on the wings cazorla is at cm le coq has been accorded the most important
role thats winning
midfield battles all of a sudden we are invincible
Ozil needs to be played more centrally if we hope to benefit from his creativity with the ball and Welbeck's first touch is far too sloppy to be played along side Lacazette... we need to find a formation which allows more service to those making runs from the middle of the pitch... Lacazette can not play
so much with his back to goal or we're simply playing the same unsuccessful offensive scheme we played with Giroud, who is much better in that type of
role... I can only hope we keep Sanchez and purchase a true defensive
midfielder then switch to a 4 -4-1-1, which allows us to have Ozil play more centrally with Sead and Sanchez on the left side and Ox and Bellerin on the right, which would stretch defences
so much that we could overwhelm most opponents with both runs in behind and overlapping runs out wide
Especially if we get Lemar our attack will be absolutely stacked with talent and depth
so the last remaining position would be a roaming center
midfielder that could also potentially play a CDM
role.
The other Arsenal player set to start tonight is Santi Cazorla and it looks to me as though the Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque is going to try the little magician in his new deeper
midfield role,
so that will be interesting.
Central
midfield looks strong but after Ozil there is not a lot of competition or cover for the number 10
role,
so that could be a possible bit of transfer action.
Playing in the creative
midfield role, ahead of Mikel Arteta or Mathieu Flamini, Cazorla needs to be doing a lot more than what he, going by the stats, has done
so far.
The Gunners have had a quiet summer
so far, only bringing in Petr Cech from Chelsea and failing to address their issues in defensive
midfield and up front, though Arsene Wenger has now identified his two main targets for those
roles.
santi plays the b2b
role now and lines up with Le coq in a 2 man
midfield the only difference is he is much more disciplined than ramsey
so and he very carefully chooses when it's appropriate to venture forward.
Now I am going to suggest that if we can't attract a world - class holding
midfielder (not talking blood - n - guts destroyer here but more a cultured interceptor, reads the play well, tackles effectively, good passing range, breaks up attacks and recycles the ball quickly into attacking moves —
so not Wanyama) to provide cover for the ever - improving Coquelin, we probably shouldn't worry too much because we have Rambo who can step into that
role when Coquelin or Santi aren't available (injured / suspended).
Wilshere has been injury prone but has been injury free for a good while now... Missing a friendly against holland is hardly a sign of medical catastrophe
so this is a massive overreaction... Wilshere is by a very long way the best of the British stable at arsenal and on his day he is a top flight creative
midfield play maker... Don't take my word for it ask xavi arguably the best ever in that
role... Since his return he has shown signs of his best but not over 90 mins... But wenger has played him all over the place does not no how to combine him with ozil and miki and surrounded him with utterly hapless players like Ramsey and xhaka... He needs a new manager to bring best out of him I hope at arsenal but if the fossil stays he should go...
i hope your right there there is talk that we might be extending arteta's contract by a year, i am of the mind that we should say thanks for all your effort here is a little gold cannon enjoy your retirement and come back if you want to do some coaching in a year or 2, as well as replacing diaby and flamini thats gonna cost hopefully hayden will step in to d / m and grow in to that
role for us and we could get someone else in the jan window, i think wenger will do the
midfield replacements in jan in advance of summer
so he doesn't have to next summer.
Heckingbottom usually has his teams play in either a 4 -1-4-1 or a 4 -4-2 formation without a «number 10» attacking
midfielder position,
so I expect we will see Samu Saiz paired up top with Lasogga, with Saiz given either a free
role to lead the attack or instructions to play off of Lasogga.
Front line is unbalanced as is the
midfield and in this team it would require the Ox to take a more influential
midfield role than he has played
so far.
Its a big game for Jose Mourinho and his men still have not qualified for knockout stages however sit comfortably with 12 points and even with a defeat they can make it to the knockout stages as group winners
so we can expect Mourinho to start with some fringe players and we might see Ibrahimovic and Rashford starting upfront with Fellaini, Pogba and Mkhytaryan playing central
midfield roles.
These players will often be called upon to step higher up the field toward the ball or to cover for a fullback in wide areas,
so players who are defensive - minded fullbacks of defensive
midfielders have taken up new
roles: César Azpilicueta at Chelsea, Nacho Monreal at Arsenal, Geoff Cameron at Stoke, and Eric Dier at Tottenham were all hybrid players who now regularly slot into three - man defenses.
Errrr okay
so I think the only way gotze to Liverpool can work is if we play a 4 -3-3 one similar to Barcelona with continho playing an iniesta kind of
role, his work rate has Improved and his pressing is more intelligent under klopp however I'm all for emre can in our
midfield he has potential but Henderson.....
An attacking
midfield role has always been Ramsey chosen position and one he plays in
so successfully for Wales.
Other Guardiola selections — using Phillip Lahm as a central
midfielder or Mario Mandzukic on the flank — have been baffling, but what has emerged is the likelihood that Croatian forward Mandzukic, whose energy was
so important in springing Bayern's pressing game last season, will play a secondary
role this season.
