I also love anthology horror flicks, and this has the potential to be
midnight movie cool while still being artistically accomplished.

It unfolds with the
cool confident rhythms of a 1970s art house drama or
midnight movie — the elliptical storytelling evokes Mike Nichols» «Carnal Knowledge» and «Catch - 22» as it does to Nicolas Roeg's «The Man Who Fell to Earth» and «Don't Look Now» — but it's ultimately a warm film that demonstrates real empathy for broken or lost souls.
That said, 1969 is an awful year on the whole for
movies — only
Midnight Cowboy and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid are standouts, along with the un-Oscared Medium
Cool (similar to and far better than Z), which also came out that year.

Movies got their hands on this really
cool behind the scenes video from the upcoming film «Sherlock Holmes 2» directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Rachel McAdams (
Midnight in Paris, Morning Glory, The Time Traveler's Wife, Mean Girls), Robert Downey Jr. (The Avengers, Due Date, Love & District, Iron Man 2, The Soloist), Noomi Rapace, Jude Law (Repo Men, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Hugo Cabret), Stephen Fry, Jared Reilly and Geraldine James.
Hollywood was truly at a crossroads then, and so were the Oscars, which had nominated in 1970 such daringly different kinds of films as
Midnight Cowboy (the eventual Best Picture winner), Easy Rider, Z, and Medium
Cool, while also giving Best Picture nods to films like Hello Dolly and Anne Of The Thousand Days, two
movies more representative of the past than the future.
