mileage earning opportunities from a US centric point of view — looking
at earning miles in American's, Alaska's and United's loyalty
programs.
At the beginning of October a mistakenly published
mileage calculator combined with an eagle - eyed traveler alerted us to the fact that the Flying Blue rewards
program (the
program for Air France / KLM) would almost certainly be moving to a revenue - based system.
If you ever want proof that most of the people running airline loyalty
programs are just phoning it all in take a look
at the
mileage promotions they come out with.
I've got a blog coming out next week that shows what the changes to the AAdvantage
program will have on my own redeemable
mileage earnings and,
at some point, you have to wonder if credit cards are the way to go.
Ultimately, the two
mileage programs will also be merged, so keep in mind when looking
at these offers, that USAirways Dividend Miles will become AAdvantage miles sometime in 2015.

Mileage Plan earning the highest score (757) for the third year in a row, followed by Southwest's Rapid Rewards
at 754 and JetBlue's TrueBlue

Here's a quick look
at the different partners and some of the lowest
mileage requirements and fees that you can get with that
program.

at American might affect their
program earnings.
Last week it invited Elevate members to join its
Mileage Plan
program and convert Virgin points to Alaska miles
at a relatively generous rate of 1.3 to 1.
Knowing which flights will help you decide whether you should look
at other point /
mileage programs to get to your destination.
As with all
mileage programs we need flexibility, if we don't have that flexibility then we'll need to have more than one type of
mileage currency
at our disposal.

program, so short - haul awards require fewer miles than long - haul awards, with redemptions starting
at just 4,500 Avios each way for flights under 600 miles, such as those between New York and Montreal.
