Make sure you have a complete
milk collection kits for double pumping (breastshields, collection bottles, valves, tubing, etc.).
Closed system pumps typically last longer and are safe for use by multiple users (with their
own milk collection kits) for this reason.
Tip: if you pump multiple times a day, we recommend having two or
more milk collection kits so you can always have a clean, dry one available when you need it.
Milk collection kits include the flange, a funnel that's placed on your nipple or areola, valves, bottles to collect your milk, and tubing that connects the kit to your pump.
First things first, you need to sterilise
your milk collection kit prior to first use, as well as any bottle accessories you plan on using for storage or feeding.
After you use your breast pump, you'll need to clean
your milk collection kit, and if you've used a collection bottle and any bottle accessories, those will need to be cleaned as well.
The tubing connects from
the milk collection kit to this air port.
Properly assembling
your milk collection kit to your breast pump is so critical for successfully expressing milk.
Over-sterilising the parts of
the milk collection kit can cause them to wear down more quickly which can negatively impact the performance of the pump.
Check out our simple guide below for how often parts of
the milk collection kit should be replaced.
You could also completely disassemble
the milk collection kits, making it easier to thoroughly clean each part — thanks, guys!
The SMB, which used Woodard Colby's
milk collection kit, was later acquired by Ameda and sold internationally to hospitals.
Ameda was also the first to put backflow protectors on
their milk collection kits — a huge improvement in hygine standards, protecting against transmissible diseases, and preventing mould from entering the breast pump motor and making them suitable for multiple users.

• The Spectra 9 Plus has a nozzle for
each milk collection kit, making it easy to swap from single to double pumping.
