missional means we have to live sent here, to our place and among our people....
For me to say, «No,
missional means this and you are using it wrong,» is silly (and that goes for all «users» of the word).

Well, we should be living
missional lives, which
means every day, wherever I am, whether I'm a student, whether I'm in the workforce, wherever I am at this season, that is the place, that is the field that God has called me to.
Like lots of ideas in a culture driven by rapid trends and quick - fix solutions,
missional living became, for many, a fresh
means by which to fix the problems in our churches and in others.
These change from time to time — think «kingdom» and «
missional» in the early 2000s and «vulnerable» and «intentionality» more recently; the list could go on and on — but the idea is the same: Solid,
meaning - heavy terms slowly become catchalls for spiritual - sounding stuff.
Missional engagement in such a world
means embracing the consequences of today's incidents, the events to be related in tomorrow's newspaper and other chronicles.
It
means in order for us to use the word
missional (and it's a perfectly good word) we're going to have to understand what different people have
meant by it, and settle upon how we might use it constructively in the future.
I must confess I have taken a longer hiatus than intended from my

Missional series.
Well, I am not very good at getting my «

Missional» series out on Monday.
We'll move ahead next week, but I have learned that I need to stop promising things on Monday... so this is now an occasional series that I will call «

But, in all the discussion of what it
means to be
missional, I thought the best thing was to ask those who first used the word.
The end results, I hope, will be a clearer understanding of what different groups and people
mean when they use the term «

missional church in many contexts — but the word
meant different things to different people.
