In August 2016 Google stopped showing exact
monthly search volumes for keywords in the Keyword Planner.
Take a look at the difference in exact

Not exact matches
For example, if your market is small and your website only receives an average of 1,000 visitors per month, a keyword with a
monthly search volume of 100 visitors could be quite lucrative.
Check them out to see which ones are worth ranking
for by reviewing their average
monthly search volume and competition in Google Keyword Planner.
You want to look
for the higher
volume keyword terms, ones with at least 1,000
monthly searches (step 2 goes into this further) and then you can use a tool called Keywordtool.io to find variations of the keywords you want to target.
And because you're using a keyword research tool, you'll know exactly what the
monthly search volume is
for that keyword.
Also, don't bother with keyword phrases that have a
monthly search volume of less than 50 (set the filter
for a
monthly search volume of 50 — 500).
For each keyword phrase, KWFinder shows you the
volume of
monthly searches.

monthly search volume make sure you set the matching criteria to [exact], look
for the box below in the left hand side of the tool:
There are a number of ways to get relative
monthly search volume, but what remains the easiest is using Google keyword planner (the replacement
for the now deprecated keyword tool).
So
for this version we are going to discount
monthly search volume by multiplying is against the inverse discount rate of the competitive scores (1 minus the competitiveness index percentage).
Yale Appliance's Sheinkopf started targeting long tail keywords in his blog posts when he realized the important term «counter depth refrigerator,» with a
monthly search volume of 8,700, was more valuable to him than purchasing listing positions through PPC
for terms like «refrigerator.»
I think as long as people don't get sucked into the BIG
monthly search volume and go after those BIG keywords right from the get go... because we all know how disappointed you're gonna get when you don't get results in the short term
for those competitive keywords!

for very competitive terms, that had a stable range of
monthly search volume.

On Amazon, the term «short stories» has a respectable
monthly search volume of half a million
searches, which shows that readers are
searching for snack - sized fiction and are buying it.
«
Search volume» gives you an idea of how many times people are
searching for that keyword (usually shown as a
monthly average), while «competition» gives you an idea of how many listings already exist that are relevant to that keyword.
