gaming world, and its Origin On The House program draws on their long
history of games by providing Origin users with a new free game every
month from EA's stable of classics.
It can be read as yet one more example of Brøderbund's downright bizarre commercial Midas touch, which continued to yield a staggering number of hits from a decidedly modest roster of new releases (Brøderbund also released SimCity
in 1989, thus spawning two of the most iconic franchises
in gaming history within bare
months of one another).
For instance, Square Enix was hoping to see Tomb Raider sell 5 - 6 million copies within the first
month, which would rank it
in the upper echelon
in the
history of
gaming sales.
Still, that key melody has carved a place
in my personal
gaming history — and whether you've heard it time and time again yourself, or sample it for the first time as it's meant to be when the SNES Classic launches later this
month, I hope it's earned one
in your
history, too.
Putting all of July's Must Have games together
in a list made me realize that July 2013 was one of the biggest
months in the
history of iOS
gaming.
