Not exact matches
I don't spend time in my study figuring out how to save the world, how to grow the church, how to get
more money out of people's pockets, how to promote this church's
ministry, how to enthrall our people
more with sexy worship music, how to make myself
more awesome before my people, how to get
more people to hear
about and come to our church.
Keep in mind the congregation probably knows
more about pastoral
ministry than you.
I have thought
more about church finances in the last 8 months than in all of my previous years of
ministry combined.
We will remember this
about Jesus as we step into a
more «normal» portion of our
ministry of being with family instead of on the «field» in «mission.»
But
ministry moves a notch deeper when there can be a hand on a shoulder and an invitation to sit together and talk
about more than a handout.
To be
more specific, the Synoptic Gospels represent Jesus»
ministry as exercised chiefly in Galilee until
about the last week of his life; John has much to say of a
ministry in Judea before Jesus began his work in Galilee.
As it is, he really only spends one paragraph talking
about this, but Jesus emphasized such outward - focused love during His
ministry, and the church at large could benefit from
more of a reminder that the Kingdom of God is not just
about loving one another, but is also
about loving and serving those who live in darkness and fear.

ministry is
about people.

more about young adults, understand some of the many reasons they leave the church and often stay away, network with other leaders in your area and walk away with some do - able next steps and encouragement for your

more than others, not so that they can feel extra special, or become puffed up
about how great of people they are in God's eyes, or how wonderful their

This does not mean that women's
ministry must become heady, academic, or political, but it's got to be
about more than mere survival.
Finally, women in
ministry must begin talking with one another
more seriously
about the reservations they sometimes have concerning senior pastorates.
To make matters worse, the average congregation is
more worried
about overpaying the staff than underpaying them which leads to the church being crippled spiritually by pastoral changes as the pastor moves to a better deal or leaves the
ministry or works multiple jobs just to support his family.
Conversely, inability so to invest, or the
more frequent grumbling
about the investment, are rooted in an attitude that at some level still regards basic consultation as an enemy of
ministry.
In my consultative work I have nowhere been
more baffled than when asked what a center for disturbed children could do
about ministry.
Here is one
more example, one of my riders was invited to speak
about the motorcycle
ministry at a local church.
What's happened, of course, is that over the past thirty years the central purpose of Catholic worship» the Eucharist» has been all but lost in a sea of concerns
about community building, lay
ministry, liturgical language, battles over music and statues, and yet
more community building.
In the same and in other schools uncertainty
about the meaning of the
ministry comes to appearance also in the feeling of conflict in a faculty between its loyalty to a traditional idea, such as that of the preacher, and its sense of obligation to denominational officials, alumni and churchmen in general who urge a
more «practical» education.
It is also pointed out that uncertainty
about the office of the
ministry may be a by - product of that
more intimate interaction among denominations and communions which has been characteristic of recent times.
He examines the speeches in Acts and also the editorial skeleton in Mark, and he finds that they follow a
more or less common pattern: the
ministry began with the «baptism» of John, that is, his message of repentance and work as a baptizer; following John's arrest, Jesus began his own
ministry in Galilee, and there «went
about doing good,» and «healing all that were possessed by the devil»; then he came up to Jerusalem, where the rulers put him to death by crucifixion; on the third day he rose again, and appeared to his disciples, who were now «witnesses» to the truth of these reported events, namely to his resurrection from the dead.
For Protestants, though, seminary need not be
about ministry; at some of the
more - established old line institutions in the U.S., for example, only a minority of students actually enter active
ministry after graduating.
The other day I posted an older cartoon suggesting that people are
more important than ideas, and quickly wrote a short post
about the Reverend Gretta Vosper, a United Church of Canada (UCC) minister who is being tried for her fitness for
ministry.
Let's look at them one at a time to learn a bit
more about their lives and
ministries.

about Jesus were growing steadily, such as that of the Virgin Birth, and the
more miraculous stories of what he did during his earthly

ministry, which now seems likely to be adopted to a certain extent by the Roman Catholic Church, is to create a group of subministers, who are permitted to perform nearly (but not quite) all the functions of the priest, but who will be trained much
more quickly.
In this situation
more than a hundred theological schools have agreed to examine themselves and the status of theological education in general, to raise immediate and ultimate questions
about their purposes, their methods and their effectiveness in discharging their duties; to seek also ways of improving their own
ministry.
The quest for «the historically verifiable Jesus» ends up with nothing
more than an estimate
about greater and lesser probabilities, and what is historically verifiable «is not at all necessarily what is most central or pivotal to Jesus»
ministry, any
more than we can deduce from what is unique to a person what is essential to that person.»
After
more than 20 years of professional
ministry experience and a decade focused on philanthropy and developing leaders for the nonprofit world, I often get into conversations
about how to know if all the work we're doing is actually worthwhile.
I think knowing
more about his life before he started his
ministry would make him
more interesting to people and allow us to embrace our humanness.
I knew that if I hoped to understand what drew him into
ministry in Japan, I needed to learn
more about Christianity.
What if elder's meetings were
more about prayer for the people and
ministries of the church than discussing the myriad and minute problems and issues of the church?

Month - over-month enrollments doubled and tripled throughout the year at Samaritan
Ministries — one of the country's biggest health care sharing
ministries, which now has
about 113,000 members, 43 percent
more than it did a year ago.
While the question of what to do with information
about harm done to a child or an elderly person is important, it is the myriad of
more mundane questions such as these that are
more likely to have an effect on the church's day - to - day
ministry.
What we have just been noting
about the interrelatedness of the prophetic and teaching functions will suggest the difficulty of separating the teacher and the prophet from each other; and, if they belong together, it seems on the whole
more plausible to regard them as belonging to the local
ministry.
