(You may suspect it's Anderson having
more fun with creation, like the political struggles he invents for his made - up Republic of Zubrowka, the species he concocted for The
Life Aquatic, or the game of Whack - Bat, but you would be wrong, which may be why he even includes Zweig's birth and death years and locations).
Expected so much
more after The
Life Aquatic, but this was just a pretentious mishmash of ideas and camp over-acting.
The Darjeeling Limited (# 14)
More controlled and elegant than The
Life Aquatic perhaps, but it exists in the same Andersonian emotional realm: goofiness and pain experienced through a sieve of numb bemusement.
While many think that «The
Life Aquatic» and «The Darjeeling Limited» are
more mixed affairs, others insist the director was just beginning to hit his stride.
