and golden eagles —
and thousands of raptors, other
birds and bats, many of them threatened or endangered — every year for the next 30 years.
The fact is, many
more birds (
and bats) are dying at operating wind plants than we know.

The fact is, many

and bats) are dying at operating wind plants than we know,
and as the turbines spread, mortality will increase.
Pattern Energy's use of radar, on their Kenedy ranch wind project in Texas, is a failure: thousands of
birds and bats have been reported killed in the short history of this wind farm
and thousands
more remain unreported due to flawed mortality studies.
We are thus really talking about an unsustainable death toll of 30 million
birds and 50 million
bats a year —
and more still if we factor in other hide - the - mortality tricks documented by STEI.
As the industry has matured, turbines have grown larger, making them far
more powerful while at the same time safer for
birds and bats.
Amherst, well known for its abundance of migratory
bird and bat life, is also a Canadian recognized historic centre, a centre for
bird tourism,
and boasts a windswept coastline with
more shoreline than all of the 1,000 Islands combined.
As someone who has a lot of respect for the animal kingdom, there is nothing about wind farms that makes my blood boil
more than the hypocrisy
and double standard associated with the killing of
birds and bats that these wind farms are allowed to get away with.
Post-operation, the numbers of
bat deaths
and bird kills far exceed what was expected from the wind turbines, noise complaints are being made
more frequently as a result of
more powerful turbines,
and wind power companies have abused their approvals by removing trees from protected woodlands, for example, or placing turbines on sites not consistent with the approvals.
