coconut is unsweetened and typically available in
shredded or flaked form.
If you want them to have a bit
more of the German Chocolate Cake Icing texture, use
shredded coconut instead but they're delicious either way.

I made half the batch as written, and the other half I sprinkled
shredded coconut over the tops before baking to make them a little
more fun (for me!).
Stirring in some
shredded coconut, dried fruit and almonds makes them a bit
more interesting, and is encouraged.
Note: Flaked
coconut works better than
shredded - the
